Pac-2 now the Pac-8

The more I think about it this feels like a miss from BY. If the Big 12 had added Oregon State and Washington State they would have vanquished the Pac-12 once and for all, not to mention inherited their television network infrastructure. Just like the Pac-12 regrets killing the Big 12 three years ago, I wonder if the Big 12 will feel the same way 3 years from now!

IMO, the B12 could still get both right now, or at any time in the future should they be viewed as a valuable option.
I doubt this new reformation gets $10m/team, and will likely participate in the Group auto-bid in ‘26. …or whatever it turns into. It’s a good inroad, but CW & Prime stream aren’t going to break the bank on this.

This is sorta like starting a new conference with Texas Tech & Baylor as the big shooters. Except Tech/BU has better basketball.

I am happy for them. It felt sorry for WSU & ORST for being left behind. They should easily be able to get a decent 10 or 12 team conference going. How long it lasts is anybody's guess.

Question: Will this still be considered a "power" conference? Will it go back to the "Power 5"?

I don’t think Stanford,Cal or SMU can easily get out of ACC if they wanted to. This 6 Pac is just rearranging deck chairs on a sinking ship. It is a strong Non Power 4 conference. ( Like a non BCS conference) hehehe

No, it will not be considered a "power" conference. It'll be like the old AAC, but probably not thought of on even that level.

It would not surprise me if the ACC wave or reduce the buyout since they really do not bring much if any value to the ACC. If anything, them leaving helps the ACC with the lawsuit against FSU and Clemson.

I don't think they can bring anybody in to be a power conference again but it will separate them from the other group of 5 conferences...

Power-SEC, BIG, B12............ACC
AAA-Pac12
AA-American, Mountain?
A-Sun Belt, MAC, C-USA

This is when Wyoming and New Mexico should go join whatever Montana and Idaho are in. AF can be Independent.

UNLV screwed over.
That’s not gonna happen.
This is a hostile take over of the M-West. There is no path forward to viability for the MW. The PAC has reached an agreement with the MW for a short period to temporarily halt its take over of their biggest brands and discuss how this transition will move forward.
When the PAC does move again, they will quickly advance to at least 10 teams and UNLV will be one of those. This is probably the only move UNLV has.
Be aware the PAC is not shooting for Power designation, as they are aware they aren’t and won’t be close. They are trying for the unquestioned most powerful Group conference, whose champion gets a CFP bid.

This would be so hysterical if this were true. Then the ACC would be stuck with SMU for nothing.
SMU paid the ACC $160m to get in, plus giving up 9 years of revenue, so $450m total. It’s SMU that is stuck in a decaying ACC.
If that X post is true, it would be hilarious. Elitist institutions saying and making very stupid business decisions, and then thinking contracts don’t apply to them.
For either Stanford or Cal to leave the ACC, it would cost $150m, but the ACC would still own their media rights ’til 2036. ….so another $450m would be the approx. total cost for each.
I wouldn’t have any of these 3 schools or Wash. St./Oregon St. as a gift.
They all possess the same elitist stupidity that can kill conferences.

The Group Wars.
This is getting pretty good. The AAC is trying defend or block further PAC expansion actions by going after Air Force (would place all 3 academies in the same conference), UNLV, and possibly Texas State / Nevada.
