OT: Switching to uVerse for Sports Reasons, Gimme Pros/Cons

Kansas Frog

New Member
I live in Kansas, so no FSSW.

But, I am switching to uVerse on Monday (from TWC).

The wife wanted Longhorn Network (she has legit reasons)

I wanted FSSW.

We now have both.

So, current and former uVerse'iens, please tell me what I don't know.

Pros? Cons? Things to watch out for?

K thanks...

Specifics: TV Pacakge (uVerse 200 + HD + HDPremier), Internet (12 mbps package)

TWC is about the only cable available out here in El Paso, and their service is freaking terrible. I had uVerse for several years in Fort Worth and never really had any issues.

I've been with UVERSE since 2009 and I'm on my third Gateway (Router), My third DVR, They replaced all the cables and wall connectors and I still have problems. They have a pretty cool system if everything works, but even a momentary power interruption and none of my boxes talk to each other without being reset. Their hold times for Tech support are extremely long, They recently had a system wide outage and I had 2 no-shows for scheduled service calls. after the second no-show I made other arrangements for my TV, Internet and Phone service. I have neighbors who have UVERSE and have had nowhere near the problems I have so I hope you have their experience with them and not mine, Good Luck, you may need it!

I really like my Uverse service for the most part. I have the U-300 package with the HD Premier package which you definitely want. Service has been great for me. I think it's a little more expensive than cable but not by much and there's no contract which is a plus.

I had no problems with it when I had it. My only complaint was that I felt like the HD wasn't as clear as Direct TV. I am no techie though, so I don't know if that was just in my head.

And if you are switching for sports reasons I've been pretty happy with that with Uverse. I have all the ESPN channels, the NFL Red Zone that I really love, all the Fox Sport SW channels, CBS Sports, the Golf Channel, MLB Channel, NFL Channel, NBA Channel, NBC Sports, Speed Channel, Big Ten Channel (never watch), some soccer channel, Tennis Channel, a couple of outdoor channels, and a whole bunch more including the LHN Channel unfortunately but I did get to watch the MBB game last night so there was one benefit from having it, sort of. I'd say Uverse has sports covered.

Was I supposed to type something here?
EnolaGay, look into purchasing a UPS (uninterruptible Power Supply) to hook these items up. The devices will keep momentary power drops and surges from knocking out your gear. I live in a remote area at the end of the line, so to speak, and have fairly large dips and surges. The UPS units stopped all my problems at once. I have them on my computers, a big one on my entertainment system and haven't had a problem since.

Just look up or find out how much power your equipment will draw, and get a unit capable of running it all with a cushion. You'll be glad you did.

Thanks I'll look into that. I do have a battery for the modem, just nothing for the DVR and other 4 boxes.

My biggest gripe with Uverse is that the speed on the first fast forward is too fast. Or I guess more accurately that it skips instead of fast forwards.

I've had Uverse since it first became available in Ft Worth and have had nothing but good luck.

They are as good as any service

Uverse internet is great. Uverse TV not so much. DirecTV is superior in many ways. Better picture for one. DirecTV has higher bandwidth so picture quality is superior. Good luck with Uverse TV. I hope you are not disappointed.
