Has Phil not gone completely wheels-off? It doesn’t seem that long ago when he was a respected player on and off the course.

There was the public Phil, and the private Phil. His nickname among peers was FIGJAM. F I’m great, just ask me. He was always about Phil.

Now that this thread's back on the top page, anyone have insights on what the Tour's new Challenge Series means for Colonial? Sounds like 10-15 events will get bumped to the junior circuit, and the commish seems focused on the top circuit making no more than one appearance in each major market. So, either the Nelson or Colonial is getting demoted.

Read something the other day that essentially said there would be @ least one tournament in Texas but where it would be depended on which sponsor wrote the biggest check. It also seemed to indicate that Colonial would be the preferred site but that Schwab had previously turned down the opportunity for a "signature" event (they wouldn't write the check) and that they also only had one year left on their sponsorship agreement.

Don’t underestimate the egos in Dallas. They won’t go quietly into the night. Will CJ, the sponsor, up their ante…or does the Salesmanship Club have someone else lined up? Or will they make a more persuasive pitch to tour brass and get their help finding the money? Relationships matter more than ever right now.

All things being equal, Colonial will get the nod because the Nelson made some big mistakes with their golf courses over the years, and legacy is on Colonial’s side. But money can tilt it back in Dallas’ favor. There are some heavy hitters in the Salesmanship Club and Dallas has a bigger pool of sponsors.

Should be Colonial. Better venue. And the course is actually a challenge. Kinda hard to claim a champ series and have courses that are yielding 31 under par. Watching Golf Channel and listening to PGA Tour Radio on SXM make fools of themselves by trying to defense less challenging courses has been a real hoot.

This is my concern, if they just go with a big check for any of the tournaments to be in the tier 1/champ/whatever bit. Just won't be a sustainable model.

The whole relagation thing is garbage to begin with. The PGA model was doing very well. If they want to have a soccer style set up, then go manage soccer. Quit trying to match LIV by jumping at the lates hot take, especially when you kicked LIV's backside and LIV's model showed to not be sustainable.

I don't have a lot of faith in Rolapp. And the faith I have in JM has a major exception; he doesn't seem to be able to wrangle in the unrealistic ideas of the players. Tim Finchem was really good at that.
