Watching The Players Championship. They had Brian Rolapp the current PGA commissioner and they overviewed the coming changes to the PGA tour.
Season Structure, Consistent Fields, Open Big, Major Markets, Promotion & Regulations, Enhancing The Postseason.
Given Tiger is one of the leading appointees to the scheduling commission I feel Colonial is dead on arrival for future PGA tournaments. The changes to the coarse itself is good but with the overall push towards grandstands and corporate tents Colonial doesn’t stand a chance. I hope I’m wrong. So sad since I grew up walking that course yearly during the tournament and fortunate to play a hand full of times in my life!
Just my 2 cents worth?

A great and historic event. Got to honor those that paved the way is my advice to Tiger is he is indeed biased towards The Colonial

He is very biased against Colonial with his one and only appearance here in 1997. A lot to digest during his brief tournament appearance here in Fort Worth. That story could be told with different versions depending who’s telling it. To be honest he has and does make stops here in Fort Worth for personal/business reasons. I do not feel he dislikes Fort Worth itself but only the golf related issues attached to it.

He has TCU business partners in J.J. Henry and Andy & Kristin Mitchell, with Bluejack Ranch in Parker County. I don't think that project is competitive with the Schwab Challenge, but Tiger has no reason to be actively working against TCU interests.

This is the final year of Schwab's title sponsorship. So... Dang. Hate to think it'll go away. The home of Hogan. Say it ain't so! Sure has a great history. Great list of major champions who also won at Colonial.

I am almost certain that Colonial will have a spot in the new schedule if they get a sponsor and the club wants it. I do not think the Byron Nelson will make the A tour they will be a second level event.

Hard to believe PGA would throw away one of their oldest events to the scrap heap.

Is there an indication that Scwab won't continue their Sponsorship?

They have a Pretty large presence in the DFW area.

The Nelson is the one that should be worried. Damn shame they could do this to one of the tournaments that has given the most to charity — and one that is named after one of the greats of the game — but here we are. Rolapp is back-pedaling from his original bluster, so he’s feeling some heat. Maybe he will see things more clearly after the tournaments and sponsors weigh in. He doesn’t fully understand the history and culture he’s threatening to upend and is going to face some pushback.

unless Schwab stops sponsoring the overall PGA Tour in general including the season long race on the Champions tour - Colonial is not going anywhere

but we are also not getting an level of elevation above the current state unless we get a move in our date or a change in the 4 tournaments that surround us - we are trapped by mediocrity much like the TCU athletic programs....

They will all be the same on new tour. Off week after majors so Colonial would have an off week before if it stays the same schedule. Only problem now are the changes to the course that many guys dont like

Not only the players but the spectators. Cant watch the golfers unless your funneled into one of the stadium type grandstands with the better seats paid by corporations half empty. This is true for the back nine. The front nine so far is not that way except for #9. Not fun in any way form or fashion anymore!

Yeah, it really is incredible how badly they screwed it up. I haven’t talked to a single person that likes the new layout. It was as if the idea was to completely rid of any and all character on the course.

colonial is just not a tour quality course especially with the lack of hospitality amenities. it sits next to one of the largest train switchyards in the country and back nine's backdrop are section 8 apartments.
the renovations are subpar and the course isn't even the most pristine in fort worth. down the road i can see this to moving to one of tiger's ventures in west tarrant/parker county.
the only thing keeping colonial alive is history as it is an otherwise mediocre course and a social club for locals.

If the option is to move it to Tiger's new course, then they will choose somewhere in Dallas first. However, this option is not anywhere near being on the table right now. It's too far removed from the city and they don't have the embedded historical infrastructure that Colonial brings in terms of membership, management and fundraising. There's something to be said about stability.

The Colonial course is fine by tour standards. It's still in the upper tier as far as courses go. There are a lot of very mediocre courses on tour compared to Colonial. Colonial is annually in the top 20% in charitable giving, which means the corporate support is there.

As of two months ago, the Nelson was on the chopping block. Colonial was safe. Don't underestimate what those in the Salesmanship club may do, though, to keep it there. Their liability is the current golf course. Their leadership, though, is not bound to the TPC at Craig Ranch like Colonial's is to Colonial, so if they find a good option for a course, they can make their case.
