OT (mostly) - NFL thoughts

1) I haven't done any stat research, but is Adrian Peterson going to be a Top 5 RB by the time his career is done?

2) Adrian Peterson looks to be much better post-knee surgery... it's amazing. It seems like there have been a lot of players lately who have knee surgery or tommy johns (baseball) and come back much better than before. Is Waymon James going to get better?

3) RG3 is ridiculous good and his stats are fantastic. But, Luck is the rookie of the year IMO. His stats don't pop out at you, but he is working with far less than RG3 and he stays healthy and wins.

4) Great game on tonight... Patriots vs 49ers in Foxborough.

Amazing game. As a Pats fan I had given up at 31-3, but I should know better than to doubt the Greatest QB of All Time. (Yeah, I know there are other candidates, but there's never been anyone better.)

I've never wanted to admit that hes the GOAT but I'm coming around on that. The dude is incredible.

AP will be top 2 all time by the time he is done.

in 6 seasons he has 74 TDs and 8352 yards and is closing in on over 10000 yards all purpose and has 77 TD overall.

I bet he eclipses 16000 total yards and 110 TDs in 10 seasons.

His entire team was (mating between GDU & Native Frog) up, and he pretty much single handedly made that a game again. The guy is incredible.

Pretty much the Cam vs. Andy argument from a year ago, except RGIII is winning too. I think it's RGIII by a half-a-length right now. If Washington wins the NFC East, stick a fork in this one (assuming Griffin doesn't miss any more games).

RG3's ceiling is higher, but I'd take Luck over the long haul simply due to durability. RG3 takes too many risks and doesn't have the body type to withstand them. Luck is a sturdy guy.

I haven't watched a ton of Colts football this season, but if yesterday's game was any indication of their OL play, it's amazing they are where they are. Watt and Co. were in the backfield almost immediately on damn near every play. Luck had no time to do anything, and most plays they made were when he moved around in the pocket to buy time after being pressured.

He's damn good, I think I'd take him over RG3. I still think Griffin will have can injury riddled career

AP is a stud...even the little things he does is 100x better than the average NFL back. For instance, against the Bears he had what looked like a for sure 8-9 gain, but twisted and turned just a bit as he was going down to reach the first down marker. This was on a first down play.

I disagree. RG3 needs to learn to run like Cam does this year. No chances, run OB or slide early taking no hits.

His best receiver Garcon was out for 1/3rd of the season yet his completion percentage is above 66% with 18 to 4 TD/int ratio. His accuracy is better than Newton by a lot and he throws the best deep pass in the NFL (statistically maybe there is 1 or 2 QBS better but that's it)

Steve young scrambled a ton but early on learned he didn't need to run. Had an awesome career. RG3 is great without the running, Newton isn't.

I agree with a lot of these points, but I think you are giving RG3's accuracy a little too much credit. A week or two ago they showed a statistic and RG3 completes something like 30% of his passes behind the line of scrimmage. The next closest was 15% or around there. Also, Kirk Cousins has played a couple times now and looked just as good as RG3 in that offense.

Agreed on Luck. However he relies too heavily on Wayne (similar to Dalton with AJ Green). Texans took away that connection and although he spread it around their passing game suffered severely against a very bad secondary lately. Texans came in 32nd in the NFL against the pass for the last 4 weeks giving over 350 passing yards per game.

He played Cleavland and has Morris that still got 2 TDs and 87 yards despite them putting 8 in the box all night.

I can play counter point to that argument
4 TD passes 40 yards or more (highest in NFL as of December 4th)
Best QBR against the Blitz (Tom Brady is #2)
Tom Brady throws 81% of his passes shorter than 10 yards versus RG3 at 74.6%
RG3 leads the nfl in passes over 20 yards
Leads in completion percentage over 20 yards
His best receiver isn't even close to Reggie Wayne, easily a HOF wide receiver.
Leads NFL in scrambles and yards

What are you disagreeing with? That RG3 will be oft-injured?

And I mever said RG3 wasn't great without the running, he's a very good passer, I just said I think he'll have an injury riddled career. He was injured at Baylor, he's injured again now, and my guess is he'll be injured again at some point for a lot of years in his career. He plays with a reckless style and doesn't have that thick frame to absorb hits from giant men over the course of a career.

He has a knee sprain and could play if he needs too, they are just playing it smart for once. Yes he got injured in Baylor because they needed him to do everything, the redskins don't. What I disagree with is the assertion that he will have an injury riddled career in the NFL. He might but there is no guarantee on that.

He does not need to run to be successful in the NFL. Hell he could have 50 carries a year and still dominate. They just need to build around and get a wide receiver that's more than just fast (Santana Moss). I can't fathom what his numbers would be with a WR like Reggie Wayne or AJ green.

Good points and stats. I would be interested to see all of those numbers confined to just in-air yards, not YAC. Obviously it would make Tom Brady look pretty bad, so there is something to be said for putting your receivers in a position to succeed.

Just looked it up, RG3 accounts for 49% of his yards YAC, Tom Brady is at 44%

Washington's receivers may not have an all-star, but their combo of Moss, Garcon and Hankerson is pretty formidable.

And RG3's rushing yards equate to injuries (unlike Newton), so I'm not as impressed.
