OT: Michael Young to the Phillies

Michael Young to the Phillies.

Rangers get a MLB reliever and AA reliever back.

Rangers pay $10 million of $16 million owed this year.

Young gets no trade protection in Philly, and $1.2 million in additional funds to accommodate income taxes owed in Pennsylvania.

This is a good trade for one reason: You take MY out of the lineup for the Rangers, Ron Washington has said over and over that he was going to keep rolling him out there at 1B and DH. That is not acceptable He would have been a fine bench player and platoon guy vs. LHP, but we just had to take the toy away from Ron.

Now we can get Jups, sign Greinke and Hamilton and take over the world.

But, bye bye Face, you will be missed.

Very bittersweet day for Rangers fans. MY was Mr. Ranger... very sad to see him go, but it's for the best on both parts... gives us an opportunity to solidify our lineup without all the crazy rotations, and gives MY a chance to be an everyday starter again. HATE HATE HATE seeing him go though.

Young wanted to play, can't blame him, but in that clubhouse he wasn't a starter. Wash kept bending to Young's pressure and that wasn't good for the club. I love Young as a Ranger, but at some point a clubhouse has to do what is right for the team and not for a singular player because he's been here for a long time.

Now if some team would just money whip Hamilton and take that headache off our hands. I'll miss Young but not his ole' fielding. He was one of my all time favorites for sure. Mixed feelings.

Can they trhrow in Washington too? Guy needs to start getting some new blood into that line up and quit riding guys that are past their prime and slumping.

Young probably cost the Rangers both the division title and home field advantage throughout the American League playoffs last year. No telling if that would have made the season end differently or not, but it is good to see the organization part ways with him. It really is best for the team. He had some good years, but he was already well compensated for them and now he may be the most overpaid player in baseball.

Looks like Greinke is going to sign with the Dodgers. The Rangers were never going to sign both him and Hamilton anyways.

I don't think Hamilton is a lock to come back either. The Rangers may end up with a bunch of money to spend on next year's free agent class.

Hate seeing MY go, but no mixed feelings. He has to go. He wouldn't have started.I agree with iirst two posts on this thread - very well put K and 'Sauce.

BS!!!! You can't put the late season collapse of the Rangers on Michael Young. I don't know how much you know and follow baseball, but plenty of people that played the game would say he was not the reason why the Rangers ended the season with a dud. There is plenty of shared blame to pass around throughout the roster. I will sorely miss his professionalism and leadership. Young showed up to play every day! Except for Derek Jeter, I can't think of any other AL player that was respected by more players, managers, and coaches than Michael Young.
