For more fun:
Read = to look at carefully so as to understand the meaning of (something written, printed, etc.)
Read = past tense of read, pronounced like "red"
Damn. Glad English is my native language.

BTW, I predict that in 50 years things like the differences between, their, there and they're will be eliminated with just one spelling for all. In other words, the beginning of the idiocracy.

Along that same line, even in major media I've seen multiple uses of "lead" where "led" is intended. I realize that some leaders' efforts go over like a lead balloon, but that's an elementary mistake...or an elemental one.
