Young, 66, said he was told by Gundy in February that college football is a young man’s game “and I was the face of the defense and he thought my age would hurt recruiting and he thought players wouldn’t play for me.”

Young said he thought that was “nowhere near right.” He expressed those feelings to Gundy and they agreed to disagree. The result? It was determined the 2012 season would be Young’s last.

Says the head coach who got his [Craig James] handed to him two months ago by the Septuagenarian one state to the north.

Regardless of age, the guy created the blueprint for shutting down our offense that was pretty much used by everyone we played the rest of the season along with their own personal touches. With our OC's unable to adjust, the regression just continued from there but that's where it started.

TCU might want to hire this guy to be the LB coach and get a recruiter to fill the WR/RB coach position. Fill the LB coaching position with another former DC with tons of experience, might be priceless.

Seems like Young will have a solid age descrimination suit against OSU if that's truly what Gundy said.

If Gundy really said it. Maybe he's that stupid.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gundy called Coach Young in and complained about insufficient energy, and the latter took the comments to mean Gundy was complaining because he was too old. "Agreed to disagree." Surely they didn't disagree about how old Coach Young is.

But if Gundy really said it and has no plausible deniability, Coach Young's retirement package may have just become more comfortable.

Young is a great D coach. Although he was also suited for the run game more then defended the spread which probably hurt him in this league more than any. He is solid though and always gets more from his talent then he really should. I think Tech would do great picking up him for D. Not only solidify the defense but give the staff some deeply needed coaching experience.

BTW - Young was Kansas's D coach the year they won the Orange Bowl. Left because Mangino was a Richard. That year, Kansas had a great D, the next 5 years with superior talent, the D was absolutely horrible. He went to Miami the next year before returning to Okie State, btw he's an Okie native. Anybody remember how bad the Okie State D was previous to his stint? BAD!

In the wishful thinking category, would absolutely love to have him as Linebacker coach! That's where he's best at. Just not sure if his philosophy would fit into GP's 4-2-5 scheme.

Bad move Gundy.

BTW - he was a dang good recruiter back in his Kansas days. Not sure if he's asked to do that much at Okie but he can do it if need be.

Was I supposed to type something here?
Gundy is that stupid. But, then again, he may have been paying the man the compliment of being honest, even if it is litigable as 'age discrimination'.

Wow, we got people pushing for folks older than dirt, who couldn't recruit Granny Emma, if they had to... Guess Haverty didn't teach anything. Get another Haverty and keep him...

Recruiting is big and fast, and recruiting is best when kids can relate.

Thought Gundy would have been smart enough to find some other excuse for letting him go.

Another thing, look at our history. The current staff started out with 2 young recruiters. Anderson and Glasgow. They were terrific early on. Anderson burned out, asked for relief, and left the East Texas area to Haverty. Limits his recruiting now, just like Bumpass. Glasgow has been slow to recover since being fired at Tech...

GP better get 2 fireballer recruits, 'cause his staff is getting older...
