OMAHA, Neb. — Florida State third baseman Sherman Johnson still remains in awe at its sight.
College baseball players often take for granted they have a locker with a nameplate above it, but not Johnson. Almost two years later, each time he sees it reminds him of how difficult it was to attain. A sophomore, he has gone to walk-on to the Seminoles' second-best hitter. He will be in the lineup when FSU faces TCU in the opening game of the College World Series Saturday at 2 p.m., at Rosenblatt Stadium.
"It was a dream come true," Johnson said of earning a roster spot last season. "I had always wanted to be a Florida State Seminole. When I saw my name and number (32) on that locker, I was pretty happy about it. I take pride in it every day." ...
