Orlando Sentinel: First Academy guard lands first D-I offer from TCU

Buddy Collings | Orlando Sentinel Varsity Writer

First Academy has reported on its Twitter feed that senior Hudson Price landed his first major college basketball offer, from TCU, on Thursday.

Price is a 6-foot-5 shooting guard who moved from Atlanta to Orlando as a junior when his father – former NBA All-Star guard Mark Price – was hired as an assistant coach by the Magic for what turned out to be a one year stint.

Hudson played a limited role for a TFA on a team stocked with seniors last season, but has stepped up as the Royals' top player this season.

He averaged 18.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists in the regular season to lead First Academy to a 19-6 record. The Royals play Windermere Prep (17-9) tonight at 6 in a 3A, District 5 semifinal game at Trinity Prep. The winner advances to a championship game on Saturday at 7 p.m.

2013 SG/SF Hudson Price (6'6, 205 lbs.)
Recruiting: Vanderbilt, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Bucknell, and Yale have shown interest.
Coach's Description: "He's got tremendous size for the shooting guard position. He shoots it well. He's got NBA in his DNA (father is Mark Price) and obviously he can shoot it and all that, but the thing that will surprise people is he more athletic than you would think."

Yale, Vandy? Correct me if I'm wrong, but those are pretty solid academic schools, right?

If so he must be a good kid all the way around.

Prospect Profile: Hudson Price

A newcomer this season to Florida high school basketball, rising senior Hudson Price has quickly made a name for himself in the sunshine state. We recently caught up with the 6'6 forward to discuss the latest with his recruitment.
A highly skilled, versatile forward with good size, Price is an intriguing prospect in the eyes of college coaches. Combine his performance on the court with success in the classroom and you have a prospect with some of the top academic schools in the country in hot pursuit. "I am hearing the most from Bucknell, Furman and Army as well as other mid major Division I programs," said Price.
Price was recently invited to the NBPA Top 100 Camp but his trip was cut short after an ankle injury early in the camp. The rising senior says that he will be back to 100% by July when he will travel the country and play in front of hundreds of college coaches with the Atlanta Celtics. He then will turn his attention to his college decision and he has a good idea of what he is looking for.
"I want to find a program that fits my style of play. I think I fit in well with a team that runs multiple sets and has more structure in the half court."
The son of NBA great Mark Price, Hudson joined The First Academy program early in the season and was a major part of their run to the regional finals that ended with a loss to eventual state champion Tampa Prep. Without the high scoring duo of Dillon Graham (Florida) and Tyler Coons (UCF), Price will need to elevate his game and take on more of a leadership role to continue the success at TFA. "I am working to improve my perimeter skill set," added Price, "We have plenty of young talent and have a good chance to continue our winning tradition next season."

I like how he plays through traffic. Looks like he has a polished offensive game.

As an aside, not sure if he is NBA talent, at this age...

Another site has Stanford and Wake Forrest looking at him as well. After doing a little reading and watching on him today it sounds like a kid who was on a talented team last year and has really stepped up his game this year now that he is the primary scoring option. From the clips he does a lot of nice things offensively; takes good angles, good looking shot, not afraid of contact. Ball handling looks a little iffy at times, but not terrible.

He looks like a guy that you may not think of much during a game but then you look down at the stat sheet and he's put 20 points on you...

I like that CTJ is going after shooters because we can't make many 3 pointer this season. It looks like he is trying to make it easier for the inside guys by getting perimeter shooting.
