Opelika-Auburn News: Echols-Luper decommits from Texas A&M

Auburn High senior Cameron Echols-Luper — who played quarterback for the Tigers but is expected to play wide receiver in college — decommitted from Texas A&M on Tuesday.

“The main factor was how many receivers they had committed,” Echols-Luper told the Opelika-Auburn News. “I just didn’t want to fall back into the numbers of the depth chart. It was the best decision for me.”

According to Rivals.com, four wide receivers are committed to Texas A&M for the Class of 2013, three of them with a four-star rating, and four-star JUCO wideout JaQuay Williams has already signed with the Aggies.

Echols-Luper — ranked as a three-star athlete by major recruiting sites — has said in the past that he wants to play college football in his home state of Texas. He is now considering TCU and Texas Tech and said he’ll visit the Horned Frogs this weekend and the Red Raiders next weekend. ...

Cameron is 5'10- 180, Quincy is 6'2- 175. Both ranked about the same 75, 78. Does anyone know if either would be favored by the coaches? TCU took a million TE's and looked to be shifting the offense into using the bigger TE sets. Feisty?

seems like they're 2 different WR types. Cam being more a slot. Although with everyone saying he might transfer to S, he seems like a smallish frame for a S.

On height: LDB, Doctson, White and Story are 6-3 to 6-4, while Listenbee, Porter, Carter are 6-1 or less...

Interesting that Boyce would have been the 2-deep's only senior wide-out...

I know it's not what you said, it's the opposite of what you said.

Facts....

Luper wants to play WR
The staff likes him as a WR
The staff is telling him they are recruiting him as a WR

So, when you say the staff "likes him as a safety", are you saying that the staff has illegally talked about a recruit to you and told you that they like him as a safety? If so, are they lying to the kid?

If they are lying to the kid, you probably shouldn't post it on Killer Frogs

I don't think A&M wanted him gone but they weren't exactly holding onto him either. He's a stud that could very well be one of those guys that critics look back on as a guy A&M missed. Recruits will let it be known if their offers are yanked.

easy guys...you both could be right...

so the staff offers him as a wr, but tell him that they like him as a safety. He gets a shot at wr (which we know is a loaded position on the depth chart), and if he doesn't cut it there he is moved to safety...

was that so hard?
