The college football season is rapidly approaching. Ahead of it, analyst Greg McElroy looked at what he thinks are the 10 best nonconference games of 2025, including the TCU Horned Frogs at the North Carolina Tar Heels.

A choice that normally would catch fans a little surprised, McElroy explained on Always College Football that there’s a good reason why this is the ninth-ranked nonconference game for him. That’s the new North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick.

“We’ll go to TCU at North Carolina,” Greg McElroy said. “This will be Labor Day Monday. Now this is interesting exclusively for one reason. It’s because Bill Belichick will be patrolling the sidelines for the North Carolina Tar Heels.”

Do people really go to football games to see a coach? I never saw a coach throw, run, or catch the ball for the game winning score. When I go to games, I watch what's happening on the field, not the sideline. Maybe I'm a bad fan, I don't know.

You have a point, though that might have been a bit of a morbid curiosity of what kind of clown show may occur. I doubt that is the thought behind Belichick. I guess it could happen, who knows?

Why does this even need to be defended? Regardless of coaches, it’s a marquee Big 12 school vs marquee ACC school. It’s an interesting matchup on a standalone time slot.

Yes and no. The coaches didn’t throw two redzone INTs. But that last drive with 2 minutes left was atrocious. And the coordinator that gave up 45 points at home and apparently didnt know what a wheel route was is no longer here.

Lots of circuses on our sideline from about 2018-2021. Mostly coaches yelling at each other looking totally disorganized while players often seemed indifferent to getting their asses kicked. Fun times.
