what gets forgotten on some athletes is while they done a great deal of work to physically prepare in high school to earn a college scholarship they don't do near the work to academically prepare. if for example you grew up in a household where no one went to college, education wasn't stressed, and you attend a high school whose biggest focus is on moving students through in four years you simply aren't going to be ready for college academics.

i have multiple friends who teach classes for houston community college and know some people who run a couple of the hcc campuses. the stories they tell about kids who come with a high school diploma who can barely get be entry level math and english classes is scary.

curious how many on this site are first generation college attendees who basically were given no real guidance from home and how many how someone reading to them, went to parent-teacher conferences, were in classes that fostered accountability instead of hand holding and a push them through mentality

It is no longer the goal of public education to educate students.....It’s to provide and expose kids to adequate social services.
