Okay. I do this with some regularity every year. Today is 48 days until Baseball season starts on February 15th, 2013 in Oxford Mississippi at 3pm. I started at 48 because tomorrow is 47, the highest number on our roster. Each day that has a player that wears that number, I will post their bio, pic, and stats, along with any information I can find about their summer ball or news. I'm very excited for this year!

Morrison and Mitchell have already earned preseason honors, being named third-team preseason All-Americans by Louisville Slugger.

TCU Baseball has a preseason ranking of no. 15. This is the seventh time in 10 years that TCU has had a top 25 preseason ranking.

Unfortunately, unless I pay for Baseball America (which I am heavily considering doing), I can't access much preseason information from them. HOWEVER.

The Frogs must replace mainstays Josh Elander and Jason Coats, plus sparkplug Kyle Von Tungeln and reliever Kaleb Merck. But the rest of the core remains intact, and the Frogs relied on a bushel of talented underclassmen during their run to super regionals this year. Freshmen Derek Odell and Jerrick Suiter flashed star potential as freshmen and should make big leaps forward as sophomores. Slick-fielding shortstop Keaton Jones needs to improve upon his .166 average, but he is a quality defensive anchor in the middle of the diamond. Once he got healthy around midseason, hulking first baseman Kevin Cron showed why he was drafted in the third round out of high school, and he'll be a powerful presence in the middle of the lineup for the next two years. A full healthy season from defensive stalwart third baseman Jantzen Witte will also be a big plus. The pitching staff looks loaded, with a nice blend of power arms (led by Andrew Mitchell, Brandon Finnegan, Stefan Crichton) and funky low-slot sinkerballers (Preston Morrison and Justin Scharf). Four incoming freshmen should contribute, from hard-throwing righties Mitchell Traver (who has showed 92-94 mph heat with hard sink as well as a hard curveball) and Riley Ferrell (who has bumped 94 but his inconsistent) to lefties Austin Fairchild (who has also touched 94) and Trevor Seidenberger.

If that diagnosis doesn't have you excited..I don't know what to tell you.

That is most of what I could find right now and I probably ought to get some work done. Happy 48 days and counting!

I have joked for a very long time that the ~60 days between regular season of football ending and opening day of college baseball season are the only proper days for any God feearing Texan to get married.

I certainly know that is my only option!

I love my wife dearly, but am considering leaving her to court you!

One time this subject came up and I told my GF that I'd rather her run me over repeatedly until I'm dead before I'd get married during football season. Long story short, I was almost a homicide victim via repeated vehicular assault.

Among the newcomers, some observers think Paul Hendrix may give Jones a battle at shortstop. Three catchers, Paddy O'Brien, Boomer White and Kyle Bacak will compete. Also, three outfielders will try to fill the void at that position-- they are Cody Jones, Dylan Fitzgerald and Kevin Daniels. Good news all around.

Elander is the only position I'm too worried about replacing. He was always under rated IMO.

Not worried about this at all. While I generally prefer having a catcher as a team leader, I think we'll be just fine behind the plate. Maybe even much better than fine. Not sure why you feel JE was underrated but that's a defensible opinion I suppose.

What about the time between the end of baseball season and the beginning of football?

I'm getting married May 26, which would be the date of the conference championship game but here's my thinking: She orininally wanted around the first of April. Well that always coincides with Rangers opening day. Then we looked at mid May. I have 5 good friends who coach high school sports. Two are baseball coaches and two others have to coach track in addition to football. One, reluctantly (his words) took a handful of students to State last year. So with their meets that ruled out most of May. You get into June and you have potential regionals, super regionals, and CWS conflict in addition to the Stanley Cup (huge hockey fan). Then all you have left is July and August because no straight man should ever get married in the Fall unless its an off week and your wife is a badass who wouldn't mind having every anniversary revolve around football. Mine is no badass.

But we wanted an outdoor wedding and July and August are too damn hot to ask anyone to voluntarily ask people to spend a few hours outside. Plus, her parents are in their 70s and all four of my grandparents are in their 80s.

When everything was factored in I figured a potential conference championship conflict was the easiest concession to make.

KVT was such a great burst of energy at the top of the order for the Frogs last year. I hope we can find someone to replace him as well.

KVT was a good player but he always seemed to try and hit bigger than he was. You don't need guys like him swinging for the fences, just making contact, getting on base and let his speed do the work, once he is on.

Schloss told me that Cody Jones ( I think ) is a better all round player. He's just as fast as KVT, hits better and can switch hit.

Baseball season begins about 1 a.m.

So good now that TCU football plays into late December or early January the days to baseball season are much fewer. Unfortunately, TCU basketball hasn't been able to fill the void well the last decade.

um, Preston Morrison and Andrew Mitchell anybody?

Morrison, Crichton, Finnegan, Ferrell... Mitchell is the closer in 2013, been working towards that since the summer.

Of all of those, Crichton and Morrison are the easiest to move to the pen, Finnegan is in the rotation, Ferrell is probably too good to keep out of it.

You also have Seidenberger, Young, and Antone who are right there, followed by Teakell.
