O and D line?

Are we that undersized on the offensive line and Defensive line or are the linemen just not being coached the proper techniques? Injuries? I could do a lot of in depth homework but I know some already have a good analysis of this. Please help understand.

D-line is not the issue. The defense has been left out to dry by a pass happy offense that gives the ball up too quickly.

OL is a wreck. We probably have the worst IOL in the big 12 and bottom 5 in the country. Cooper Powers has looked really good and will be a solid starter going forward, but our upperclassmen at G can’t move anyone around. The scheme doesn’t help either. After Briles is gone I’m hoping we go to a pro style system built on running the ball with some QB run mixed in. The air raid has never and will never win championships.

O-line/ is #2 NIL cost after QB. Tech spent $7m on its d-line and it shows, but they should have spent more on O-line, as they can't keep QBs healthy.
Tech also overpaid to convince guys to go to Lubbock.

They're a major part of the equation. Not near as much as the o line, but they're not that great. They get zero pressure without blitzes. Not great against the run either. We need a major talent upgrade in the trenches.
Yesterday was the first day they really got chewed up by an OL in the run game. Markis Deal is a potential NFL DT even though he hasn’t been dominant. I would like to see more from Perry Cole and Kelton Mikel who have played well when they’ve gotten a shot. I’ll agree our pass rush has been subpar. Oyewale and Chapman haven’t had a great year rushing the passer.

I’m not gonna research all the stats, but my eyes tell me this defense is getting eaten alive by an offense that doesn’t have the capability to sustain drives because of poor personnel on the OL. We have to have an offensive system that prioritizes mauling people in the run game and hitting play action passes. We desperately need 3 new players on the inside OL. Without those two things next year, Sonny is toast.

And getting run over is what will happen every time we play an elite team. Part of the reason our D line doesn't look too bad is a weakish conference. We truly get exposed when we finally play one of the elite teams in the conference. We would never have success in the Big 12 conference championship game or, God forbid, in the playoffs with the defense we have. And I won't get off my "we need to be better in the defensive trenches" high horse until we start getting some pressures against teams without having to blitz. The few defensive stats I fooled around and dug up are:

9th in sacks
11th in fumbles forced
9th in fumbles recovered
9th in total yards allowed per game

Just on the wrong side of middle of the pack.
