No More NFL for Me

I have watched my last NFL down. They are calling way too many "defenseless receiver" penalties, changing the nature of the game. I understand the desire to prevent injuries to players on whom teams have invested huge sums of money. (I'm not naive enough to think the league actually cares about anything but money.) However, it's no longer the game it was. I'm not watching any more.

By no means a reason to quit watching the NFL though. They're calling it too much in college as well, but I doubt you're gonna quit watching the Frogs.

Are you talking about the hit on Vernon Davis? Live it looked like a good hit, and it was. Got him right in the chest. When you slow it down... he got him in the chest. Stuff like that should be reviewable.

Terrible call. That was one of the best hits I've seen this year, and it was totally legal. That was a large man that Chancellor made look like a rag doll... Davis is a beast.

You mean to tell me you aren't going to watch the penalties, officiating screw ups, instant replay reviews, injury time outs, "keep it close" officiating, hype and commercials?

I was amazed how little I cared about the NFL after I quit gambling. Now that I'm over the Cowboys, I don't watch at all.

Not that it makes it any less legal, but Davis did leave game with concussion.

Keep in mind that the same players that are moaning about how it's ruining the game are members of the NFLPA, which is currently suing the league for failing to adequately protect these guys that are now 39 and have the brains of 80 year old Alzheimer's Patients.

It's more than just "protect the investment", there is a clear liability concern on the part of the league.

If Andy Dalton were not starting at QB I doubt I would have watched a total of 2 hours of NFL all year. My wife enjoyings watching Jerry Jones failure and that is the only reason the Cowboys are ever on my TV.

They do call it too much in college, but it's night and day compared to the NFL. Those clowns will outlaw tackling at all pretty soon. Every NFL game will be Baylor vs. WVU.

Someone had a crappy fantasy year.

Out of 3 leagues I got 1st, 4th and 5th but felt I underperformed relative to the talent on my teams. Overall, it was a good year though; made my entry fees back and then a little on top of that.

I will be keeping A.J. Green I'm almost positive.

I did just that, and feel I got much of my life back and know that from watching people fret about the cowboys. Andy is making it tough not to watch pro football, but he's not on much.

As far as the penalties go, as a former WR, I agree with everything they are doing. I had around four concussions and know that if I was any good (and kept playing), it would have been 20. I can't imagine them allowing the hits to continue to endanger players. It seems like overkill, but you can't change the style of play with minor fines and penalties.

Wrapping up with a midsection tackle is a lost art, complaining about not allowing launching yourself at people is a disregard of human life. I'm happy to hear the NFL is addressing this, even if it is just to save themself from lawsuit.
