It's like Utah remembered at halftime that they are a good team and stated to act like it. Their defense improved, they had better offense under the basket, and they started to hit some threes.

They played like a ranked team.

These 2nd half collapses are an issue
Agreed. Something isn't right when a team gets up 20 consistently and then doesn't hold/extend. Even in the Tech blowout, the third quarter was ugly.

Two things:
1. The Frogs seem to do a great job of scouting. HCMC praises the scout assistant after almost every game, and while that's his style, I think the Frogs do a great job simulating their opponent in practice and come prepared. Opponents adjust in game--in part because the Frogs' talent isn't easy to simulate, although motivated teams can find men on campus to do that.

2. HCMC said in his presser that his staff gets to coach from the bench on D in the first half, but in the second half, players are on an island on the other end of the court. That sounds like a real issue--Utah doubled its offensive output in the second half. It's something the Frogs have to address, whether with frequent second-half timeouts, prepping subs to deliver messages, or simulating in practice. Especially for road and post-season play, you can't rely on getting direction on D from the bench.

It might be time to make Donovyn Hunter the QB on defense. HCMC said a while back that he has trouble getting the players to talk to each other on court. Last night he called Hunter the best defender on the team. HVL said nice things about her development, but also called her the baby of the team.

But she made the freshman all-PAC team last season, so she's no wide-eyed newcomer. Takes some courage with a bunch of seniors in the lineup, but it may be time to give her a more vocal leadership role on D, especially after halftime. Good prep for next year, too.

Last night we were taken out of our defense by very soft foul calling, with 4 of our 5 starters in foul trouble. I think we just got tentative on D, and Coach didn't expand his rotation past 7 (Last point is not a criticism, it's just an observation).

I'm still waiting on the day that this team shows up - not just to win the game - but kick somebody's @$$. If they didn't learn anything from the South Cack drubbing, they should've learned the value of having a little contempt for your opponent. It's gonna take that mindset to be a legit top five team.

On a side note, I absolutely LOVE the way Agnes plays! She has one speed...full. She's like a female version of Rodman; she's just gonna out work you. Every team needs an Agnes.
