Nick Saban to UT

Well per insiders anyway (and no I do not believe it will happen):

"Well, what I’m about to say doesn’t make much sense, but I’d like to get your thoughts anyway. I would never suggest such an outlandish thing if it didn’t come from an unbiased, yet blow you away type of source. This is a hall of fame football coach talking with someone close to the Texas program. He says the day after the National Championship game, Nick Saban is getting on a plane to fly to Austin to sign a contract to coach the Longhorns. There wasn’t any discussion of money or terms, but the source was matte of fact an unemotional apparently. I don’t buy it and risk being laughed at, but the source of rumor is unreal. What are your thoughts?"

Well, in the unlikely event that this happens, we need to scoop Major Applewhite up as fast as possible. His parents live in Southlake and he would be the perfect fit here.

Don't you think that he might stay at UT if given the chance? He worked for Saban once and I am not sure if he left on good terms but if he did, then why wouldn't Saban keep him?

I doubt it happens, BUT I've been saying for a while that moving to UT isn't nearly as crazy as many of us like to think.

The dude loves rebuilding programs, and my guess is after Alabama (likely) wins against ND, he'll think he has accomplished pretty much all he can there, and will be looking for a new Blue Blood to rebuild. A new project, if you will.

If he were to turn UT into a perennial National Title contender like he has Bama and LSU, that's another notch on his giant belt, and I could see that kind of thing being appealing to him.

Whatever, doubt it happens, and I really hope it doesn't

Then once Coach P takes over for Snyder at his alma mater, maybe we can get Saban here.

Major was the OC for Saban at Alabama, and left to take a pay cut and a position downgrade as RB coach at UT. I actually have some inside information about how all that went down, but I think it's pretty obvious just on the face of the thing that they did not have a "love connection."

Of course, considering that Larry Porter just quit his job TODAY as running backs coach at Arizona State to take the same job at UT, I have a hard time believing any of this is remotely true. (I'm sure it will crash ShaggyBevo regardless.) But if it were to be true, hiring Applewhite would be the biggest no-brainer of all time, and a huge coup. He is a great recruiter and coach, and a terrific person. Wes, he could probably recruit you to UT.

IMO, that probably had more to do with him having an opportunity to return to his alma mater to coach with opportunity for advancement than it did with any relationship issues between himself and Saban. Of course, I have no inside information, so that's just my $.02.

And if it happens, 1.7 nanoseconds later, Ags will claim they scared him off. It'll take a day or two to work out the official wording for the wall at Kyle Field.

He ain't that good.

However, I agree that the hiring of Porter makes the Saban thing look like a rumor but I know the UT fans wish it to be true.

Still think he gives the NFL one more shot. That's the only failure on his resume. Gotta think he'd try that one more time before he hangs it up.
