Name Your Head Coaching Candidates

GJ Kinne, as a hot shot can't-miss quarterback recruit, left Baylor standing alone at the altar when he switched his commitment last-minute (to, IIRC, UTx). For me, something like that is always funny when it happens to ole BU.

But that situation says nothing nice about Kinne's character. I would worry if TCU stuck its neck out depending upon Kinne to not take what he thinks is a better offer at the very last minute.

His brain would short-circuit like some Star Trek computer... "Landru! Guide us!"

I could see his role as one of TCU humbly going to him and asking, "Who do you think would be the best hire we can make? Who do you see as a young GMFP out there right now?"
That's exactly how we got Billy Tubbs. We called him about one of his assistants, and he replied "what about me" and the rest is history.

Was I supposed to type something here?

Tubbs had a few miles left in the tank, and hadn't had a career around Fort Worth that was old enough to drink. Plus he was a 180 degree about face from the dour and moribund Moe Iba.

Right after he was hired, he came to the Houston Coaches Golf Event. He spoke briefly at the 19th Hole, and I remember one older Alum noting, "He's like Jack Nicholsen's funnier older brother..."

I feel like I know even less than I used to about coming up with an ideal head coach candidate. As far as I can tell, the new phenomenon of hiring a "General Manager" to handle personnel matters including 'crootin', is something that is very alien.

I would argue the actions of a 17-year-old kid are completely irrelevant to a now 37-year-old man running a football team.

Pass on a 58 year old coach.
If you go through the length of this thread and the 2025 Coaching Carousel, you'll see some names that make a lot of sense. Like I recommended a year ago, Mike Shanahan OC IU. I also submitted Jim Leonhard DC at Buffalo bills. Andy Kotelnicki and Jim Knowles. I'll sign on with all of the above with the exception of Knowles.

The only coaches I can think of now that have been brought up in last couple days because of their reputation and success in 2024-2025 are Jason Eck UNM & Lance Taylor Western Mich.

The problem with all of this "coach guessing" is that it has become the ultimate musical chairs because of some University admins having more OR less urgency to the OBVIOUS vacancy. Eck and Taylor will be gone by Turkey Day. In the meantime, TCU Admin will still be dealing with Deputy Dog --- "which way did he go"
"which way did he Go" " I didn't see this coming"

Dammit Jim, I’m a doctor—not an Engineer!!
