Mystery of the month

Several days ago, a blog interviewer ask Gildon if he was coming back to TCU. His quote was "you need to ask Coach Patterson".....????? Huh? A few weeks ago he was on his way, would be in school early January, like last week.

He had a knee injury, a miniscus(sp) type not too serious threat. He said he would be running again in less than 3 weeks. I remember he reported he was for sure coming, and he would be the only big linebacker on the roster??? Sounded like he was coming,,.

We haven't closed on any LB's lately, so this has become a mystery. Did Gildon have another grade problem, uh, what's up Doc?Figured GP would be down at the JC in Mississippi, working hard to get him back.

Getting a little worried about linebacker. Dawson and Shaw could be it next year. And a freshman starting there, well, not the normal thing, where grown [Craig James] men operate...Douglass is still a little skinny... We still may see Gildon..

Mystery, a riddle, surrounded by a conundrum type puzzle................   :eek:hmy:

Here are the LBs that we've taken from highschool the last 3 classes.

Vay Jay Hilliard - Wussy
Derryck Gildon - Not on the team, no one knows why.
LaDerice Sanders - Texas State - Good.
Marcus Mallett - Projected starter unfortunately
Blake Roberts - never played
Tanner Brock - Drug addled
Justin Isidore - didn't qualify

We had a good linebacker in Jason Phillips who played QB in high school. Are there any of the athlete's in this year's class that could project at that position? We probably don't do as much of that as we have in the past, but maybe CGP has one of those recruits that could be our next J Phillips.

I'm going to be laughing all day about "Vay Jay". Cracks me up. Thanks.

And didn't Phillips start as a true freshman?

Keeping my fingers crossed for Duke Riley. From that interview with the NOLA Times it sounds like the early playing time is a big draw.

If this was NCAA '13 I'd be dedicating at least an hour and only talking about early playing time.

So you're hoping a 200-lb freshman will be our savior?

It looks like it may be Mallett and 6 DBs most of the time.

I'm hoping a 200 lb freshman with real potential will come to TCU, yes. He can gain the weight, he's got the frame for it. Not too worried about that.

He's listed at 6'1" 215, and he has offers from LSU (greyshirt), TCU, Miss St, Arizona, and Ole Miss (et al).

Obviously, depending on a true freshman is not ideal, but at this point, it might be our best bet.

Besides, size is a little overrated at the LB position, IMO. Playing in coverage is more important, I think

Can't understand why its so hard to get a good LB in at TCU. We've produced Hensen, Washington, Hawthorne, Carder, and Phillips to the NFL draft over the last six years. Why can't we get a good LB in?

Agreed, I'd take a fast 220 lb player over a slightly slower 245 lb player. Kenny Cain comes to mind :D

Tanner Brock was that NFL LB. He just decided to screw himself and the university.
