I don't know what game you were watching. It worked well several times last night. Not only that, but Boykin is getting better at it.

Problem is 4th quarter offense clearly went into a protective mode instead of an attacking mode .HCGP obviously put the game in the hands of our Defense in the 4th quarter. I hope next season ,as they're a year older, HCGP will let the Offense try to put the boot on the throat instead of curling up in a protective shell like last night.

I don't know what game you were watching. It worked well several times last night. Not only that, but Boykin is getting better at it.

Obviously not the game you were watching. Cause in the second half it got nothing but stuffed. We had some straight up dive plays that worked well all game, but the zone read has been getting stuffed for weeks now.

The only play I really had a problem with was the 3rd and goal hurry up where they tried to pull a QB sneak for about 1 &1/2 yards. Got Stuffed of course.

LHCGMFP did exactly what he was supposed to do with a 2 score lead in the 4th quarter, on the road, as an underdog with TB at QB. He put the game in the hands of our playmakers, which this year is our defensive unit. That is smart football and it worked.

Thought about this after the game...

The Horns did not attempt a trick play that I recall. Considering their OC, and TCU's reputation for falling for trick plays, I thought it was odd.

They did have one play that was a fake sweep/fake statue of liberty, but didn't really see that as a trick play...maybe a half trick play

We are highly limited at the QB position and did what we needed to do to win. I expect to see Boykin transition into some kind of a crazy hybrid RB/QB next year, with or without Pachall back

Dumb post. The Zone Read works if run well. Just ask Andy Dalton, Cam Newton, RGIII, etc. We need a passing game, to suppliment, but unfortunately, probably this year, we won't have one.

I hated the short side jet sweep with Dawson. And, I hated the slow development of the inside gap plays. Those have to hit hard and fast, not looky-lou. Or, pop outside if the gaps crash.

Well we can't run the zone read very well with Pachall and that is what we did yesterday so I'm not sure we were "highly limited". Both QBs bring a different set of skills. We didn't need to throw yesterday but when we did we had success (minus the 1 int). Managing the game the way Boykin did yesterday is exactly what needs to happen to open up the play action passing game which plays into his skills. We should've been doing more of this all along. Next year assuming Casey is back we are going to have lots of weapons and give opposing defenses fits.

Pretty sure TB ran that zone read keeper for a 28 yard gain, then another for like a 12 yard gain.

I agree with most of what you said, I do think our run game would have still been more than good enough especially with a threat to throw with Pachall, but whatever, we won and it was a great gameplan. I have my reservations on whether we can beat OU only throwing the ball 9 times, but who knows. Their defense may be worse than UTs.

But I am completely onboard with your last statement. Get Pachall back, add in some WayJames, Story, etc etc and we are freaking loaded.

Same here. Hated that call. And was worried about playing too conservative too early. But that was GP style big game winning football.

Boykin was the leading rusher last night, in part due to the zone read. We won. But go ahead and complain some more. Maybe when we win the National Championship, you'll complain about the uniforms.

Watched the game again. You are correct. That's what happens when you host Thanksgiving and the game watching at your house and have 20 million distractions. Not as bad at it as I thought.

One thing Boykin could've improved upon was making better reads. Several times he made the wrong read and had he kept it he had big yards ahead of him. Hard to be too critical considering how many yards he did have and how many times he extended drives with the scrambles. He's only going to get better in that regard.
