More realignment talk from Greg Swaim

Every school wants to join the Big Ten. Most schools would join the SEC in a second. The challenge for the Big 12 is who do you take that the Big Ten or SEC isn’t going to raid in a few years.

The SEC has a geography problem. There are few schools they can add that make a ton of sense. I’m thinking UNC and UVA, but those probably are better suited for the Big Ten. The Big Ten can grow, but it’s definitely losing its identity as a Midwest league.

I don’t understand what Loserville brings to the Big 12. They have to be lower on my list. I think something BY may consider is building a fortress around Texas and Florida. That does hurt the SEC and Big Ten when it comes to recruiting. I think the ACC does survive after the defections if it takes the approach similar to the Big East did years ago with focusing on private schools with some public ones mixed in to the conference.

Jeez, has that ship already sailed?

A short summary as I see it

8-15 is the deadline to give notice to get this done after this year
FSU finally was given the full contract and now has the exit strategy and cause
SEC and B10 are firm on waiting out the initial round
BY has put together the initial deal and is supported by networks

With Clem and FSU firm on their commitment to exiting the ACC and B10 and SEC firm on their stance, TV is left with little option other than to support the B12.

I'll be somewhat surprised if anyone puts in their notice to the ACC one month from now. I will be utterly shocked if, when that doesn't happen, Swaim and other realignment $%^!-posters retract anything they previously said or cease to post new and different predictions thereafter.

Why would anyone sign a document without seeing the full document or keeping a copy of it ?

I do not get why FSU or Clemson would pay large exit fees (or even medium ones) to go to a conference where the annual payouts would not cover the exit fees within a few years. ie. If you only get $10M more per year, but have to pay out $100M, does not seem to make sense. Only if they have no exit fees would it make sense to me.

I don’t fully think so. Right now SEC teams get games in Florida and Texas when they are on the conference schedule. The SEC needs good out of conference games. The Big 12 could take certain schools and create a scheduling agreement not to host SEC teams in state. That would to a certain degree limit recruiting. That hurts some SEC schools more than others as the allure for many is to play in the SEC.

15 years ago Clemson was making less money per year than Bowling Green, because they weren't very good and nobody cared. If they suck for 5-years in the Big10 who's to say that they just aren't another Maryland?
Define not very good.

Clemson went .500 in 1999, and in the last 45 years, they have only had 4 losing seasons. (2010 the only one in this century)

Well their revenue sucked before Dabo got the program running and that was more the point. Do they have as rabid of a fan base as say Florida State and therefore are not worth as much? Of course it doesn't seem that the Big10 even thinks that Florida State has value.

Fun fact: Their last 10 win season before Dabo was when Ken Hatfield was coach.
