More realignment talk from Greg Swaim

Not even a chance in hell this is true.

The AAU is a membership association, not an accreditor, btw. There are zero levels at which this guy knows what he's taking about.
They have an accreditation process which is what he is referring. Even their website states this and to be a member you have to meet certain standards:

AAU works with the broader higher education community to help ensure the federal government plays an appropriate accountability role. In particular, the accreditation process should play a strong role in maintaining accountability in U.S. higher education and serve as the federal government’s primary indicator of whether an institution is capable of providing a quality education consistent with its mission.

There is a decent chance the ACC will implode before summer’s end.
All of the stuff Swaim mentioned has been a talking point, and is not out of the realm of possibility, but there is literally no one person that knows how it’s going to go with teams moving.
There is lots of arguing, bluster, & butt hurt right now. Not even the people who will eventually be pulling the levers on this situation actually knows how it’s going to break with teams moving at this time.

six teams?
Definitely: Clem, FlaSt, NC

Who are the other 3?
Duke?
Miami?
VT?
Virg?
NcSt?
ULouis
Duke, UVa., & Miami would be great, but currently all are still very hopeful they will go BIG.
UL, VT, & NCSt. are logical fits for footbal. Plus in terms of Bball revenue UL #1, NCSt #21, & Va. tech #27.
After the legal decision, every team outside of Clem., Fl. St., NC, Miami, UVa., & Duke will immediately be in play for the B12. A little later, some of those 6 will also come to the realization that the B12 is their best hope for the future.
In the end, UL, Ga. Tech, Pittsburgh, Miami, Duke, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Wake Forest, North Carolina State could all be looking for a B12 lifeline.

since private equity was mentioned, i have had a sense that yormark would use it to break fsu and clemson from the acc. that's my conclusion. i won't waste your time with the rationale.
You could be right, as I know they have already had “feeling out” type discussions with BY.
BUT It’s not that easy, as a GOR is in place.
1) The B12 would have to pay $$$ to help get them out of the ACC.
2) Once out, they will want the B12 to make up the B12/SEC/B10 payout differential
B12 approx. $40m. SEC/B10 approx. $70-$75m

#2 “disproportionate team payouts” will be a huge point of contention and many B12 schools will adamantly oppose.
Paying Clemson / FSU an extra $30m annually would be a very hard pill to swallow.

This. I hope that EVERY Big XII school opposes disproportionate payouts. If FSU/Clemson can ask and get, I'd bet that BYU will be next. To ask, anyway. And scheme to blow up the conference if they don't get.

They don't have enough leverage. Sure they will bring in a disproportionate share of revenues but stand to lose much more.

To your second point, if the SEC/big wants them they will take them. If sec/big doesn't want them they'll just have to take the best they can get or go indy.
Also, I'm not a media type but it would seem to me that adding FSC/Clemson would be a net positive to a conference payout which, in itself, would help close the gap between conferences.
Lastly, BY seems to be one of those guys that can find innovative ways to make things happen.....could find enough magic to pull FSU/Clemson into the fold.

Yeah, screw that. If they want B1G/SEC money then they can join the B1G/SEC. If those conferences don't want them, they can just stay where they're at. I don't really think adding them will be a win for the conference long term because they will always be jealous of the other conferences. We don't need another UT situation in our conference again.

Totally agree, it could be great for the B12, but it’s more complicated.
If FSU/Clemson is not able to reach a suitable deal with one of the 3 conferences, then they’ll re-constitute the ACC with their disproportionate shares in place and full control. Every ACC team without a BIG/SEC offer wants to remain in the ACC.
The B12 may not have to cover the whole $30m, but equal is unlikely.

If they’re forced to re-constitute, we’re likely right back in full blown expansion bedlam, again.

Swaim is solid.
