FC Dallas Opens its La Copita Campaign with 5-0 Win Over San Antonio FC

Jara's goal came in the 7th-minute when Jáder Obrian stormed down the right wing and found Jara with a low cross that the Argentine swept calmly into the bottom corner. The second goal was eventually knocked in by an SAFC defender after Obrian struck the post and put the rebound back into the danger area.

"The guys are in preseason mode still and we're looking at rotations and different things in terms of formations," Luchi Gonzalez said after the game. "But we don't want to lose our way in terms of possession and pressing and being aggressive in transitions. Occupying spaces is everything for us, with and without the ball. I saw the guys really show what we've been working on in training. Let's just keep learning and being open. It's just a step. We have MLS competition coming up and we need to take that next step and get closer and closer to being season-ready."

Dallas' third goal came four minutes after the break via Ryan Hollingshead who volleyed Freddy Vargas' free kick into the near corner of the net. Just three minutes later, Obrian added FCD's fourth from close range by placing the ball into the far corner across the goalkeeper. The Colombian rounded out the scoring and added his second goal in the 68th minute after Jara cleverly dummied a through ball from Andrés Ricaurte, putting Obrian through on goal to finish calmly.

The victory gives Dallas three points towards the La Copita standings, with its second tournament match coming on Wednesday against Austin FC at Toyota Stadium.

Austin FC drops second La Copita preseason match in penalty kicks

DALLAS (KXAN) — A strong second half surge wasn’t enough for Austin FC, as the black and green lost 4-2 on penalty kicks to FC Dallas after a 3-3 draw in regulation in the second leg of La Copita.

Austin FC went into the half in a 0-2 hole, but a flurry of goals quickly gave it the lead.

Just four minutes into the second half, Jared Stroud scored Austin’s first goal of the game. Then, five minutes later, Diego Fagundez leveled the score at 2-2. Cecilio Dominguez put Austin FC on top for the first time with his goal in the 74th minute.

After that, Josh Wolff subbed nine of his 11 starters.

Dallas tied the game and forced it into penalty kicks with a goal in the 84th minute. Dallas made all four of its kicks. Alex Ring and Daniel Pereira both made their kicks for Austin, while Danny Hoesen and Dominguez missed their kicks.

Austin plays the final leg of La Copita on Saturday against San Antonio FC at the St. David’s Performance Center.

Anyone watch Austin the other day? How did they look if so?

Yea I watched them, they looked good but lost 2-0. Went up against LAFC who pretty much everyone is predicting to win it all and held their own for 90 min, LA scored their 2nd goal in the 91st min. 1st goal took a lucky deflection. Highlights are only available on the MLS official site and couldn't be copied. I expect they will make the playoffs, biggest concern is probably ST. Ring, Pochettino, Dominguez, Besler and Stuver all played really well. Daniel Pereira (the #1 pick in the Super Draft) got the start and seems like he is going to be good as well but he made a couple mistakes as to be expected in his first pro game.

not possible the women's national team drew less attention than a mls team.

curious what the numbers would look like if spanish language channels were included in the ratings

Also drew more that Man U which surprised me.

I was curious about the Spanish language broadcast ratings too, searched for 5 min but didn't find them.

Are they playing at a youth soccer complex?

That was a preseason match and Austin's Q2 stadium wasn't ready yet so they played at the St Davids performance center, Austin FC's training grounds.

This is the Austin FC stadium which will host it's first match June 19th.

It was just chosen as a CONCACAF gold cup venue so it will be hosting international competitions this summer as well.

Looks like a nice place to watch a game.
