When Tom Izzo watched Michigan State's football season unfold, he could relate. After all, despite a nation's best six Final Fours in 14 years, he too has struggled.

"I've been where football is a couple years ago, we had a good team," Tom Izzo said at his weekly radio show Monday evening. "Everybody thought we were going to be real good in football and I still think we were pretty good, we just, we had some serious injuries to our offensive line."

Michigan State football entered the 2012 season ranked No. 13 in the country in both the AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches polls. After beating Boise State on Labor Day Weekend, they moved up two spots in both polls to No. 11. But on Sept.13, at 2-0, right tackle Fou Fonoti suffered a season-ending knee injury during a practice. Later that month, during the second quarter of the Spartans' 17-16 loss to Ohio State, center Travis Jackson broke his right fibula and was carted off the field.

Their highest ranking of the season came in week three, when the Spartans were ranked No. 10 in the country. Michigan State would finish the regular season unranked and 6-6. ...
