Cubs prospect Andrew Cashner made headlines for the second time in as many starts this season. The former first-round pick took a no-hitter into the seventh inning Wednesday as the Tennessee Smokies rolled to a 15-2 rout of the Chattanooga Lookouts.

Pitching the Smokies' season opener on Thursday, Cashner (1-0) struck out the first seven batters and nine of the first 10. He lasted 4 1/3 innings and finished with 10 strikeouts, a total he matched against Chattanooga.

Unlike the opener, when Mississippi reached him for three runs on three hits and two walks, Cashner was almost flawless Wednesday. After Trayvon Robinson reached on first baseman Blake Lalli's error with two outs in the first inning, the Texas Christian product retired the next 16 batters.

Cashner, who posted a 2.60 ERA in 24 starts across two levels last season, lost his no-hit bid when Elian Herrera singled to center field leading off the seventh. He lost his shutout one batter later as Robinson chased him with a triple.

Cashner was charged with two runs on two hits over six-plus innings to lower his ERA to 4.35. He's recorded 20 strikeouts and only two walks in his first two starts.
