Miles' WNBA debut

Crazy stats - Atlanta had more offensive rebounds than the Lynx had defensive rebounds 19-18. Lynx had 7 offensive for a total of only 25 rebounds.

The Lynx passed on drafting Angel Reese in 2024 with the 7th pick, trading down to the 8th pick with Chicago and Chicago took Reese. Reese may be a head case but she can rebound - 13 in 32 minutes per game.

Dallas done scheissed up
Not an easy position for Dallas, because Bueckers is also a premier ball-handler and it's hard to see how she and Miles would mesh. Wings would've done better taking Betts--that team needed frontcourt help, not bench depth at guard.

But yeah, when people look back at this draft, people will say, "Can you believe Dallas passed on Olivia Miles?" List of players who had 20+ points and 5+ assists in their WNBA debut: Candace Parker, Tonya Edwards, Dawn Staley, Cynthia Cooper...and Olivia Miles.

and yet, that league is still losing 50 million a year. how much are tickets?
I don’t think it’s profitable by any means. But I wholly expect that the various NBA teams are using their W entities to carry thru lots of costs to improve the balance sheets for the nba side of the house. (Like over splitting the arena and facility costs, etc)

within the last 5-6 years, both the total ticket sales and ad/media revenue has jumped dramatically for the league. (Above the fairly stable levels from before COVID.) So the growth path is there at a basic level. I believe they will always need that NBA subsidy for facilities and even for some of the larger media contracts. But that’s true for most NBA teams really needing another professional sport (like NHL) to help subsidize large arenas or regional media outlets as well. So that’s not a W specific limitation. Just another league/ team to spread the costs with.
