I have been to Buc-ee's once. It was alright. It basically was a huge gas station with a bunch of stuff for tourist. If I owned it, we would be selling purple shirts.

Hey, don't bag on Stuckey's. Where else could you have gotten diesel and a rubber tomahawk and mini war drum to drive parents nuts all the way across the country.

Still impressed what they created considering they started with a road side pecan stand.

The pecan logs are still world class.

Cool story. Company grow to north of 350 locations across 30 someodd states. Gets purchased by a company up north. Multiterm Congressman and son of the owner aquires the stuckey part of the company back. Rebuilds, does the store within a store licensing, hits recession, changes business model and now his daughter is an owner and chair of the board of directors. She's quite the Georgia peach. She's basically the Pecan Queen of the South.

I'm all for BUC-EE'S having the success. I stop into a location almost every week. That's revenue to quite a few small local/counties. So good for them.

Business trips, hunting trips, vacation, golf trips ... Heck, I might have to do the bored hillbilly thing and see how many I can visit.

But I also took a detour to stop by the I-80 Truck Stop in Iowa. So it ain't like I'm normal anyway. I'm a road trip guy.


After seeing what their managers make, I can undestand why two people I know made career changes from pretty good firms. They seem to really enjoy the gig.

How do you know they're not? There's a distinct possibility that those corporations have been reached out to wrt general university support and more specifically athletic branding and those corporate leaders just aren't willing to pay more than token lip service to their support for the home town team.

Edit-and my comments don't apply to Nike. I would say that Nike and TCU have enjoyed a really good relationship...more than just being a "Nike School"

Fond memories of Stuckeys. It was a big deal to stop there on trips as a kid.

Just FYI, a new Buc-ee's is opening on Aug 14 on southbound I-35 as you enter San Marcos. So, add that to your list! I haven't been in a Buc-ee's for several years, but am looking forward to checking this one out, since it is right up the road from me.

Drove past that site a few weeks ago. Had stopped by the one in New Braunfels.

The restrooms are reliably clean at BUC-EES. In the parts of Texas I drive the most, they are timely. lol

Stuckey's or Robertsons were always good places to stop when I was kid.

I myself loved it when we'd stop at the Turkey Shop in Abbott. The Chicken Shack in Waco was also good.

College Station is home to Texas A&M University (founder Arch “Beaver” Aplin III is an alumnus and major donor), and Buc-ee’s has opened campus shops there, but the company headquarters remains in Lake Jackson.

I drive from the Tyler area to DFW regularly.
Buc cees in Terrell is a great stopping point because it is about halfway between Fort Worth and the Tyler areas. It is a good place to possibly check traffic and change my route to Fort Worth if there are traffics issues ahead. It also a nice safe place to stop just east of Dallas / Mesquite where it is not that safe late at night.

They actually have super clean restrooms especially how busy gets. I do like the garlic beef jerky. That is good road snack food that does not stink up your car. They also have good fudge plenty of other sweet Buc Cees made treats as well. However, they don’t always carry popular candy like Reese’s. I would not recommend Buc cees for gas unless you are really super low on gas. It is not considered top tier gas.
