Max Duggan for The Heisman

It is more behind-the-scenes harass the media, voters etc. with tape and stats, meet-and-greets, etc. and not so much bumper stickers these days. @Gary's Shirtless Revenge can probably elaborate further (or correct me).
Yep, think “academy award” campaign to the voters vs. public interest campaigns, though the more publicity the better. I hear and see Max’s name all the time and on all heisman consideration lists, so I think he’s in a good spot. Most straw polls I’ve seen in the past month have him in the top 5, and I’d expect the top 5 will ultimately get the NYC invite.

To be clear, I do not think he’s likely to win.

Shoo in for the Davey if he doesn't get the H. Detractors would say it was a TCU deal, but stats alone do not tell the story. Thing about a PAC qb getting the H is that the competition in that league isn't so hot.
Huh? Only one time in the history of the Davey O’Brien award has a Heisman-winning QB not won it.

Not true. The number varies by year and has had as many as six in attendance (and as many as eight invited to attend).

That article is from 2019. They changed the rule last year to invite 4 finalists.

Right, and they take the 4 that have the most votes. It’s not an arbitrary decision, the votes will already be in and counted.

If I remember correctly, the number they take depends on votes. I think it was why Boykin got shafted.

Since 1982, the most common total to have been invited was five (11 times), followed by four (10 times) and three (nine times). In 1994 and 2013, there were six finalists invited to the ceremony. To date, there has never been more than six finalists to actually attend a ceremony.

In 2014, Boykin was #4 in the vote total. He was far below the top 3. TB got 7 First Place votes (out of over 800.)

Yes. It looked strange with only 3 players at the ceremony.

But the new rules since 2021 take the top 4.
