Always a fan of Stewart Mandel. Sharp dude. Didnt see this posted, thought it was worth mentioning.

The process selection is quite stressful. I wouldnt want their jobs.

As of today (this is actually assuming UGA loses to ALA) it would pair

#1 Notre Dame v. #4 Oregon

#2 Alabama v. #3 Florida

2 teams that couldn't even win their division.


I'm a playoff proponent, but that emphsizes the biggest issue that will confront the process - the selection of teams.

Four conferences = 8 team playoff. The conference championship games become the de facto Round 1, and are called "The Playoffs" instead of "Conference Championship Games".

Round 1 winners are called "Conference Champs", and this model would always ensure that only conference champs meet in the Semis...and the title game.

The problem with this becomes the issue of "access" from the other FBS teams not in one of the four super-conferences. The only way to avoid this would be to split off an entire new division in college football.

Well if his projections are accurate then we know that strong ooc scheduling isn't going to be rewarded nor is winning your conference.

Seems like the most important thing will be to win the recruiting title so that you can be declared "athletic" and all your losses and shortcomings dismissed, and to avoid scheduling losses at all costs.

Basically it looks like the same old style of beauty contest as before.

I hate the polls because its opinions and nothing more. If you're going to have a playoff, have it conference champ based. Who cares if OOC is included. I think admitted OOC games don't count and are more tune ups, would allow for more interesting matchups. Schools are not scared to play other good schools to see where they stack up.

Bottome line, conference winners advance to play-offs, up to each conference how they choose the winner, be it championship game, best season record, don't care, your conference your rules. Have 4 large conf and 4 smaller conference teams. No wildcards, no two entries, don't care if you're the second best in FBS and the best is in your conference. No conference win, no playoff entry. Seeding is done based on SOS. Demote any conferences to FCS that are over 8, with the weakest first.....so bye bye WAC and Sunbelt.

Simple, easy, and a logical champion.

Yes and if you are only talking 4 conferences, which of the big 5 is left out, the Big 12 or the ACC? We know the Pac 12, Big 10 and SEC are automatically members of the 4.

the whole selection process works for basketball for many reasons.


im not sure it is going to work for football.


just make 8 or 12 teams. this isnt difficult.

There were several problems with their system. First, they used the BCS computers with all of
their flaws. Second, they ignored schedule. KSU played mostly bowl teams while Bama played another of its weak schedules. Third, they ignored near misses vs.bad teams, something something that FLA is all about.

The one thing I did like was it exposed the flaw re: not having conf champs and also only having four teams.

They also list Nebraska as Complete - and they play Sat in the Big 10 title game.
