LSU Defense - As Young As Ours?

Came to it late but just turned on the Chick-Fil-A Bowl to hear the announcer discussing LSU's defense. Stated he had never seen so many freshmen and redshirt freshmen starting. Color guy said something like they recruit game ready players at LSU. Surprised to hear they are that young.

LSU's size, speed and athleticism on both sides of the ball is very impressive. Going to be some grown man football playing them next year. Glad our defense is better than Clemson and some of our underclassmen should be a little bigger and stronger themselves.

Mettenberger looking good so far as long as he's not getting sacked.

Our OL better be ready to hit LSU in the mouth come August or it will be ugly.

The second part of your post is spot on. We have many things that need to be improved upon but number one with a bullet is offensive line play. Fix that and the rest will follow. If we don't greatly improve there between now and our LSU matchup they will chew us up, lift their legs and pee on us and then bury us. I've got confidence that those guys will get better. I just hope it's much better and not just marginally better.

Your point about OL play is obviously correct. However, even with significant improvement I'm pretty sure that we're not really designed to just line up and try to run over LSU out of a spread formation. (Not suggesting that you're saying that either). I expect that in the end LSU will prevail but I hope our offensive staff will look at the work of Chad Morris, a top OC, and take note of how he is making up for some of the physical mismatch between these two teams by challenging and spreading out LSU's defense and not just allowing them to tee off every play. They're not successful every play and some of it is a little more risky than what is comfortable to me but what he is doing is how it's done.

Yes. They've actually started more Freshman+RS Freshman than we have this season (by one).

Although we have started one more true Freshman than they have.

Announcers on ESPN radio keep saying LSU is the number two team in the nation starting true freshmen ... for some reason they won't say who is number one.

That's a sobering thought to ponder over the next 8 months. I watch scads of college football but freely admit that I tend to tune out the announcers. I've watched LSU a half dozen times this year and had no idea they were that young. Here I was hoping they would be depleted by graduation...

Hope our OL gets way better in 243 days

If we want to get where we want to go they must.

Our OL should have this tape running in the weight room all off season. These dudes are a bigger, faster, more athletic version of the MSU D line.

Actually they are much smaller. Mingo and Montgomery both go around 250. Their DL is very similar in size to ours. Mingo, Montgomery, and Logan are all going to declare more than likely. Reid, Simon, and Minter might go as well

Simon will stay as will Minter. Reid already has his degree so he'll likely go.

really, i cant believe they arent talking about tcu more during this game

Why are you being so disrespectful of TCU on this issue? More importantly, why giving so much respect to LSU? Their so called freshmen each spent a few extra years in high school so I question their whole "young" thing. We should prepare our young boys for foul language and bad behavior.
