Conference expansion is a canibal's dinner. If the Big12 doesn't take a seat at the table, eventually it'll be lying on a platter.

I bet the B12 could pry away Pitt - the ACC's is either going down or going to be severely diminished.
Big State (Cable TV$), major #2 state school, natural rival for WVU, accessible by major airport, top-rated basketball program (Jamie Dixon!) and I bet they'd say "yes" to an invite.
Carve up the ACC:
B10: UVA & UNC
SEC: VPI (VaTech) & NCSU
BIG 12: PITT, FSU, GA TECH & CLEMSON

Don't like going to 16. 14 or 12 and I'd be happy, but going to 16 and playing 1 team from the other division every year and that's it...ugh, no thanks.

From what I understand, Louisville is missing a vote to get in. This may be for UConn. Cincy is also pushing hard.
I hate that because Texas does not want a CCG, the conference is stuck at 10 and unwilling to expand. Lville is a great school for the B12, especially if err are going to 14 or 16.

I remember cheering for the Big 12 to implode during the two summers that they struggled to hold things together. I was laughing at Baylor and Tech, and I thought the MWC could move into the 6th BCS conference slot. In retrospect, that was really shortsighted - if the Big 12 had failed, there would have been no Big 12 for us to go to later. We can cheer for the ACC to fall apart now, but in the long run less seats at the table is not good for smaller programs like TCU. More viable conferences means more landing spots when the sands start shifting again.
All that said, I think the ACC is in trouble, but the Big 12 is being smart to wait for the right moment to make their move. We are secure with the grant of rights and SEC bowl partnership so we have the luxury of being patient. The reality is that the schools we want (i.e. FSU, Clemson, GT) are not going to agree to the Big 12 until they are sure that the B1G and SEC are not available to them and that the ACC is really toast.

With the grant of rights, we've got over a decade-long window in which to make a move. In the meantime, we've got fewer mouths to feed with our ma$$ive TV contract$.
No one that the ACC could add would increase their TV cachet. On the other hand, we present a football-first, high-paying conference option to ACC schools who are sniffing around.

This except I'm not sure there are 4 teams out there that I'd want. Stay at 10. Take FSU & Clem if it gets to that point.
Thus far I'm more than happy to watch the B10 & SEC water themselves down.

Big 12 is in no danger right now and can wait until they see how the 4 game playoff thing sets up. Also too many teams causes a conference to be unstable as there is no conference unity and the teams don't care about the teams they see once every 6 years. Infighting and selfishness is bad for any conference (and no UT is not that huge of a cancer compared to others).

ACC is the new Big East trying to plug the holes in the damm as fast as they appear. Their TV appeal diluting in the process.
Also, UL is pretty meh. I doubt the TV partners want to annie up an extra 20MM++ per year for them meaning we all get diluted. Numbers don't necessarily equate to strength.
