Lou Holtz passes...

Was I supposed to type something here?
Long and storied career as a Head Coach.

It is said that after TCU's wild upset of Arkansas in 1981, Holtz went to the TCU Locker room and asked if he could address the team. He was apparently most complimentary and humble. I am sure that others know this tale far better than I...

Yes. I know first hand unfortunately. I was there in the year 1979 when TCU hosted Arkansas at home and put up a valiant low scoring effort and lost 13-16. After that game Coach Loe Holtz saw the well attended at the time TCU home team of players and fans pour their hearts out. I was a 19 year old teenager on the prowl that night. The attendance was approximately 26,000. The Fort Worth team was well prepared but came up short. Coach Holtz was a class act and after TCU lost he addressed the losing team to give support and tell them to not lose faith and hope. A true class human being. A Catholic, religious and a leader. RIP!

1977, Holtz' first season at Arkansas, Hog fans threw oranges on the field to celebrate their invitation to the Orange Bowl. Said Holtz, "I'm just glad we're not going to the Gator Bowl." :p
Holtz suspended his top two running backs and a starting receiver over a dorm incident, and went into the bowl game as much as a 24-point underdog against #2 Oklahoma. The Hogs shocked the Sooners 31-6.

Fort Worth’s own, Roland Sales, from Arlington Heights, broke the orange Bowl rushing records that night. Roland got to play because of the suspensions.

The #1 team in the country had lost earlier that day so if OU beats Arkansa that night, they are the National Champions.
