Locked on Horned Frogs Podcast: TCU failed in the first transfer portal window by not bringing in more O-line help

Let's hope. My worry was that he would have Daddy Briles's same obsession with up-tempo play for it's own sake and the offense would just sink both itself and the defense whenever it didn't work as designed. I think we saw a good bit of that in year one and started similarly this year. But, as several posters have pointed out, Briles jr. ran the ball a lot at Arkansas and elsewhere, as TCU did in the second half this year when we were able. That was very promising. He's earned some benefit of the doubt.
I think they finally found better guys to run the ball. Not sure how at least one guy ever got on the team.

TCU made some key additions in the transfer portal window, but they need more help on the offensive line.

Didn't watch this, but teams can still sign players that have entered the portal even though the window is closed. Players cannot enter the portal after the window closes (exceptions for post-season and graduate players).

Next change, players that did not enter the portal in time will be given a second chance to enter the closed portal if they state that they actually meant to enter the portal that is now closed.

I am OK with developing the young OLs who have been in our system for a few years. They are the foundation for our success both next year and beyond. Sonny has recruited a ton of these guys and it's time to see if they can play. They certainly can't be any worse in run blocking than the guys we played last year. We don't have the NIL $ to bring in portal OL studs any way, so let's see what the kids can do.

Looking forward to the spring practices and see how they look.

I ask this in all seriousness and am curious to hear from someone with expertise in offensive schemes. I dont doubt we need better offensive lineman but we have been so inept at running with Briles as OC that it makes me wonder how much is scheme related. I am an big football fan but have little to no actual knowledge about the technical aspects of the scheme. But thematically it seems the Briles offense is very lateral and doesnt apply a lot of force down field and I dont mean deep throws. I mean when I watch other RPO teams their offense seems more on the front foot. Ours seems side to side and basically screen based. yeah it gets a lot of yards but I dont know if it really gets you where you want to be. SO O-line talent is a concern but I tend to think the scheme is a big factor too. Or at least I wonder.
A great deal of TCU's rushing offense problem was scheme related. Obviously, any run / pass option play is limited when the defense knows the QB is not a rushing threat and they only need to defend the pass. Equally obvious is that when you sub-out your pro-style QB and replace him with running threats like Savion Williams or Hauss Hejny... you are basically telling the defense that you are going to run the ball. We will see if Briles can change his ways and he needs to adapt to a pro-style QB.

As pointed out the article lacks full context. Yes, I would love to sign another 2 or 3 linemen but the ones already committed, on paper, appear to address some of the shortcomings; hopefully they'll make the needed impact. However, after watching ND and Penn State last night I was left thinking about how many times this season we saw our backs go down after initial contact.

When was the last time a TCU RB ran through 4 defenders at the goal line & scored? LT?

That was pure guts & we have not seen that here in a long time.
