Loaded up my truck last night, at work now, heading to Austin tonight when I get out of the office.

Thanksgiving Dinner at 1:00PM, head to the tailgate when the Texans victory ends, watch the Cowboys lose while tailgating, head to the stadium to watch the Frogs pull the upset, get drunk, wake up and drive to the ranch to go bow hunting.

Perfect weekend

if you are leaving from Tarrant county take US 281 today, it will take you right at 3:45 to downtown Austin, 35 will be at least 4 to 4.5 hours today from downtown Fort Worth, get behind and accident and you are looking at 5 hours and a pissed off spouse

The game is TOMORROW guys. You really want to spend that much extra time in Austin?

A.) Austin is fantastic. I grew up making jokes about gay/hippy Austin, then I spent a bunch of time there for various reason, and realized how cool of a town it is.

B.) We're having our family Thanksgiving there this year. I may or may not have twisted my aunt's arm who lives in Austin to host this year (the second I found out our game was gonna be there)

Other than UT and all the hippies, Austin is a beautiful city. I would love to have a house on Lake Travis!

Oh, gee, really? Steel will have to go there someday.

Dumbasses.

Look, Steel has been to Austin and stayed in Austin many times. It is full of dooshy UT people. It has the worst traffic of any city in the state. It sucks hind titty.

And saying, Oh, if you go outside Austin there are some great places--this doesn't exactly recommend Austin itself, which sucks.

That is all.

That's my plan, plus it's a much more scenic drive!

What lot are you guys in? We will be in lot 80.

Everyone always says Austin is fantastic, but all my experiences there have been pretty meh. Admittedly, I haven't spent significant time there or really been there for any meaningful reasons.

The traffic seems like it's a nightmare and confusing...

What is great about Austin?

Nothing. Bats I guess but there's much better bat places away from Austin. Literally, nothing good and everything bad. They say the BBQ is good--Steel has gone to every supposedly good BBQ place there and they are all WAAAAAAAY over rated.

Great restaurants, young people, hot girls, good bars, laid back culture.

Yeah, traffic sucks if you're getting on highways during rush hour.... don't drive on highways during rush hour

No, it sucks in the neighborhoods too, pretty much all the time. Why? Becuase their city planners are stupid. Try driving around Vista Ridge or Cedar park area for a while. Only good thing they ever did was put that toll roud around the city so you could--guess what--AVOID AUSTIN!

Ok Steel, we get it, you don't like Austin

Per usual, you've beaten your opinion of something (unhumorously) into the ground. You can leave the thread now

Thank you. The pressure was getting to Steel...

Oh, and one more thing--in a game of "Would you rather" Steel will pretty much universally choose whatever is opposite of anyhting Austin-related.

OK, now, THAT is all. Whew...

Darn baylor!
Im loaded up, but heading to Fort Worth for Thanksgiving dinner tonight. Then heading to Austin in the morning. Watching us beat Texas. Celebrating on 6th. Then heading home to Houston on Friday with a hangover.

Looking forward to the game. My brother graduated from Texas while my mom and I graduated from TCU. Last time we all attended a game together was The Rose Bowl. Im thankful for these times.

The reason that Austin is cool is:
1. The topography and trees.
2. Tons of great restaurants that aren't chains.
3. Laid back way of life. You can be who you wanna be. In Uptown Dallas there seems to be a lot more judging.
4. Lots of good golf, bike trails and other fun outdoor places like Zilker Park and Town Lake.
5. Good going out places on 4th St. and on west 6th St.
