They have had terrible attendance.. and want to build a 60k stadium in a city that doesnt care about the school fan wise?

UNLV should be a school Big 12 looks at to expand to, one day, not anytime in the near future, but some day. It is an up and coming school in a growing area in a fantastic location. Just needs the right coach to do miracles like CGP did for TCU, like Sumlin is doing for A&M now, etc.

This is an entertainment venue where UNLV happens to play, not the other way around. Its main purpose will be to serve as a tool to draw major events. That said, I can see that stadium helping excite the locals into giving a little more support.

Is this potentially a ploy by Vegas to try to eventually attract an NFL team even though pro sports have little interest in a team in Vegas?

I think AEA nailed it. It is an entertainment venue. UNLV just happens to be a tenant that provides some guaranteed events every year and adds a little support in the community for the project.

I love the whole concept of big video screens at stadiums. The only thing better would be if each seat had its own suite-type affair, with multiple big screen monitors, easy chairs, sofas, beer, liquor, and private bathrooms. If you could do that for every ticket holder, and then somehow solve the problem of the inconvenient drive to the stadium, you'd really have something.

Don't forget about the ease of changing the channel.

Except for the fact that they want that video screen to be where the seats should be on one side of the field. It is pretty weird to have a 60,000 seat stadium with seats on three sides, but the side without seats is behind one of the benches.

Sort of like 60,000 people posing for "The Last Supper?" Or any dinner table of the 1950s family sitcoms
