TEMPE, ARIZ. — The flaws of this year’s Michigan State football team were numerous and crippling.

But amid preseason delusions and harsh midseason realities, there has never a shortage of mettle.

Never a fall-off in effort, a sign of quitting, or a Saturday when the Spartans gave in to a blowout rather than grind out another frustrating nail-biter.

That legacy is the only positive lasting impression MSU will leave on 2012. It is significant, though far less satisfying than the Rose Bowl. ...

Saturday night’s Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl — the epitome of third tier — against Texas Christian will be a different sort of challenge for the Spartans.

There is no prize for winning this game, beyond the feeling that comes with winning itself. No extra game, better bowl or championship.

If there ever was bulletin board material, this is it.
Continually disrespected, the tiny Frogs need to arrive, play and finish with a vengeance not seen since the days of Moses.

I think he was blasting the bowl rather than the Frogs. Still, if this is third-tier, what are the Poinsettia, Idaho, New Mexico or Las Vegas bowls? Wonder if the b10 teams have to order over-sized helmets?
