EAST LANSING — Redshirt freshman Lawrence Thomas spent a majority of the season playing fullback.

The converted linebacker will likely find himself playing both offense and defense when the Michigan State football team faces TCU in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl on Dec. 29.

MSU coach Mark Dantonio said Thursday that Thomas has been working at both spots during bowl practices with more reps coming on defense. Thomas is listed along with converted linebacker TyQuan Hammock as the starter at fullback, and also listed with Micajah Reynolds as the backup to fifth-year senior Tyler Hoover at defensive tackle on the depth chart for the bowl game.

“He can play defensive end, he can play defensive tackle and can be in there in some different type situations as well,” Dantonio said. “I think he’s a guy that can do a lot of different things for us and he can be a great player in the future.

“It’s our intent right now to use him at the defensive line position, but also because of his background now of having played fullback for pretty much 10 games that he’s gotten that ability to play in and out of that position as well.” ...
