What happened to this idea?
Did it gain traction with the band? Please tell me it will happen. It only takes one guttsie trumpet player. hopefully someone in the band has the cajones to make this happen on prime time TV.
My advice to the band just because your not hugh in numbers doesn't prevent you from being clever.
Time to start this new tradition.

I remember once when I was in bad one of our trumpet players started playing a little ditty without authorization. The director at the time climbed the bleachers nearly two at a time to get in his face and rip his horn away from his mouth. It's a "band", not a solo with accompaniment.

No inside info. JMO, based on past experience.

Highly unlikely the band adds a new piece of music which is somewhat controversial one week prior to kick-off, no matter how creative or topical it might be.

When I was playing percussion (87-88), the drum line came up with a new cadence that would build to a big break. While it was playing we would hold up a sign with one word (i.e. "fight") and then at the right moment everyone in the band and student section would yell that word. I actually painted the signs on the backs of liquor boxes. Anyway, after everyone had gotten the hang of the bit, we pulled out some new words for homecoming that included "[ Baylor accusations ]" and "sodomize". You have never seen a band director bolt into the stands so fast.

Was that still Bob Blanton at that time, Frisky? That's who I was talking about, too.

You guys obviously have become accustomed to our current straight-laced band. Talk to a few of the members from the old SWC days, even Prof had some great stories. In fact, my favorite story he told me while I was researching the 100 year history of the band for the documentary was this one:

During the Stockyard parade one year the back half of the band made a right flank into a bar along Main St. Then later, as the band came around the block exited the other side of the bar and fell into ranks... supposedly after having a refreshing 'drink' in the meantime.

Opportunity lost I guess. The idea can be revived, but it's sooo much better to play it in Austin.

FWIW, I did play it on my phone a couple times, but only i could hear it. Pretty loud in that stadium.

Its kinda silly unless its institutionalized. I still like/support/want/will work on the idea for future taxes games.
