Bohls: Rivalry void gone; so are BCS, Big 12 title hopes

Texas found a rival to replace Texas A&M.;
And unfortunately a whole lot more. Mostly, it found a much better team than itself, and that’s troubling.
Now Texas just needs to relocate its once-explosive offense, its full-blown creativity beyond a fake Statue of Liberty play that didn’t work, the solid confidence it had gained by winning four in a row, its likely bowl destination… Well, everything, in other words.
The 18th-ranked Longhorns lost their final home football game, 20-13 to TCU but oh so much more.
Just when they had even the most remote chance at a BCS bowl and a share of the Big 12 championship — maybe even the biggest share, given the myriad tie-breakers to separate ties — they puckered up.

This, however, looked nothing like an upset. TCU mauled Texas. It chewed up the Longhorns and spit them out and took away everything Brown and his team had tried so hard to reconstruct after the disaster that was Oklahoma.

The part about a rivalry sould be real. If we are to be what we want to be, THIS is our rival. Forget this stupid Baylor is our rival talk and the I can't even come up with a word for the lunacy of a few who think SMU is our rival. Doesn't matter whether the game is played on Thanksgiving or the first game of the season. We win enough of these games, it will resonate throughout the state and nation as to our status in CFB.

"Mauled" is my favorite football word.

And Kirk Bohls is the an awesome counterweight to the UT maddness and BS in Austin. I swear he roots for UT to lose so he can write these columns.

This. We battle UT for supremacy in this state. Forget Baylor and SMU. Play them both, but we should expect to beat them every year, which we do.

UT is our new rival, and if the Longhorns don't reciprocate that feeling then that will be fine with me. All it will mean will be more nights like this.

I consider rivals to be different from conference competitors. I never considered Utah, BYU, Boise, Louisville, or any of them to be a rival. A rivalry has to be two sided. That's what makes our rivalry with Baylor so great. Yeah, Baylor isn't that great recently, but that doesn't mean that everyone here isn't excited when we beat them. Baylor has the same hate for us. I know a lot of posters on here have some serious hate for SMU, and it goes both ways. I hate to say it, but UT will never consider us a rival, really. We're a team that will beat them, but all they care about it OU and TAMU. Just because Baylor is our rival doesn't mean we can't compete with UT. If it gets to the point where we can get some hate flowing both ways, I wouldn't be opposed to considering this game a rivalry game. But until then, our biggest rivals are SMU and Baylor, and maybe Tech, and I have no problem with that...
