Kill's Frogs - A Tale Of Hope On The Good Ship Carter

The Carter had torn black and purple sails. She was being pushed by the prevailing winds across the Hell's Half Acre sea. Streaks of red covered her sails and her sides. With only three gun ports on the Carter showing cannon, the Bear ship from south moved in for the final broadside

In the same instant, an old man sprinted up onto the quarter deck and called for the First Mate.Morris to join him.

Captain Kill's pale eyes had seen it all and knew exactly what must be done.

Together Captain Kill and Morris grab the wheel and turned the ship into the wind dropping the ship's drift into a dead calm while the good crew of the Carter responded.

Young Mates answered Captain Kill's orders and filled the decks to man the Carter's battle stations.

The afternoon sun shown bright as the ship from the south lost Her wind and its fearsome Bear ship's growing prow was not ready for the tactic. It's crew stood around its decks unable to conceive that the Carter had life on her.

The Bear ship was used to easy victories in its southern sea. But this sea, this wind was unfamiliar and they suddenly knew fear.

As the old man and First Mate slowly turned the ship, the forward sails began to fill while all the time the gun crews, dressed in their black and purple uniforms streaked with red blood from the encounter with the KMS Wildcat, reloaded the Carter's cannon.

The Carter's gunports fully opened as the Bear ship unleashed a savage first volley and raked the Carter's side.

The old Captain, whose grey beard had seen it all, was unfazed and standing firmly by the ship's wheel. He pointed toward port and the Carter caught the wind.

Ordering the his First Mate to the Gun Deck, the Carter entered the fray by cutting across the stern of the Bear ship and firing as she turned.

The carnage was apparent as the Bear Ship's main mast fell onto the deck along with her No. 12 standard.

Fearing that the young crew would board and plunder the remaining riches stolen from far easier targets, the Bear ship turned south and limped home. Her crew dreaming of easier targets and regretting their Captain's decision to sail into the Hell's Half Acre sea.

The End - until next time!
