Keys to today's game?

1. How long will it take for TCU's defense to stiffen? Teams usually do well the first 2 or 3 possessions, then get shut down. If we can hold MSU to 10 or less points the first 3 possessions, I like our chances. Wonder if they will try to do what Minnesota did to Tech last night: just pound the ball up the middle with huge holes made by their OL. No great play calling, just good blocking.

2. Has the OL improved enough to allow the team to run it's offense? MSU seems awfully good against the run, so we will have to pass the ball to move it and score (see Boise). Thing is, will the OL give Boykin enough time to throw the ball? Play calling will look much better if Boykin has time. If we can actually make an occasional good hole for the running game, Tucker and Catalon could have some big runs...rare maybe, but big when they break.

3. How much has Boykin improved? He of course has mechanics to work on, but on the shorter passes he needs to get rid of the ball more quickly. I just feel we will have open receivers, but Boykin has to find them and quickly deliver the ball before he gets sacked or has to run the ball.

4. Oh, and of course, more short-side option...great when read correctly. Seriously, the speed option may be better against a big blitzing team than the read option.

If we give up 10 points to start the game we will not win against msu defense.

The key for me is our passing offense to have a chance. If not it will be a long night.

I think we can make up 10 points, if we can throw the ball. Be interesting to see the improvement getting ready for the bowl.

Confusing sentence. But yes, I agree. I don't think we can play a UT type game and throw the ball 9 times including an INT.

It's going to be real interesting to see how we come out on offense. I'm wondering if we will try and pull a Fiesta Bowl and throw the ball 40+ times to trick them. Or if we have to wait until the 2nd half to see a pass go beyond the line of scrimmage.

Seriously, 3-step drops and fire to the backs or receivers running slants or in the flat. Some screen passes, too. I also like the speed option.

MSU struggled against dual threat QBs. Miller at tOSU had 140 rushing and Robinson 100 for Mich. Boykin can have a big game if he is decisive. I think he will have an offensive MVP type performance. 120 rushing/250 plus passing.

Called my shot.

As an avid reader of MLive you should already know what the keys are.

I suspect field position will be critical, that means we need a good performance from our special teams. Pin them deep, get a runback or two for good position on our part. Hit field goals when we get a chance. And, of course, avoid turnovers.

I think we'll do much better than you guys think. Our issues all season resulted from youth. A month of prep time helps that out to aargh degree. If our issues were lack of speed or size, I'd be more nervous.

The possession pass game will be in full force and we will try to hit some big runs. The OL and Boykin have to perform and the receivers need to break tackles and get lots of YAC.
