Kent St to a BCS bowl?

They have to be #16 or higher in the BCS STANDINGS, not AP or Coaches poll. TCU got passed over last season ('11) - we were #17 BCS and #15 Coaches. Big East champ will finish below #16 this year so there is an avenue for a non-AQ to get "IN" this season.
Kent St isn't in the BCS Top 25 - so no they won't be in a BCS bowl this year.
Boise and No. Illinois are #20 & #21. If Boise wins #11 they'll need TCU's help and a almost perfect storm of the following:
TCU beat Okies
K-St bests Taxes
Nichols St (LA) (FCS/Div 1 AA) beats OreSt (extreme long-shot)
Stanford takes UCLA (P-12 Champ. game)
Wisky revenge Nebraska (B10 Champ. game)
GaTech blows down FlaSt (ACC championship)
Kent State wins vs. No. Ill. (MAC Champ.) (so No Ill. doesn't jump Boise.)

Wrong! Kent State is ranked #17 in the BCS standings. Great chance they can get to 16. UCLA is at 16 and will probably lose.

Go Golden Flashes....but if they lose, lets get the perfect storm that I outlined above and get Boise or No Ill. "in". Even though TCU is in the BCS fold, I forever will empathize with the have-not conferences and want them to have a real piece of BCS pie.

I understand that but I want them to have to earn the way we had to do so. I'm not saying only by going 12-0 regardless of what everyone else does but neither of those teams really deserves a BCS Bowl based on that standard.

In the real scheme of things, they really don't deserve to be 17. The system worked for TCU but we were always ranked much highter than that. Still it is the system. If they make it. I will be their fan. We all know how CFB goes. They probably are much better than the loss at KY. Pretty sure TCU is better than when they played ISU.

The real question is why isn't Northern Illinois ranked higher? They are a single point away from being undefeated (and they were ahead for essentially the entire game against Iowa before blowing it in the final 2 minutes). Their QB Jordan Lynch has been unbelievable the entire season: 4300 offensive yards, 40 total TDs.
I will be rooting for the Huskies...good to see the MAC actually have some solid teams this season.

They have one loss, how can a one loss MAC team be ranked so high? A one loss TCU team thru the years was never in contention.... Weird how the computers and polls have changed the last few years....

In 2008, we finished 11-2 and was ranked #7.

Different year different circumstances. Lots more 2,3, or 4 loss teams in BCS conferences this year.

We didn't lose to a 2-9 team...we lost to #2 Utah, #5 OU......and beat #9 Boise?
That #7 ranking was post bowl.....NO Comparison.

I watched them beat KU barely at home. The products that TCU, Utah, and Boise fielded a few years ago were much, much better than the current non-BCS programs. We all belonged, not sure that these others are of that caliber. Remember Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl a few years back?
The MAC, this season, was easily top mid-major conference and included wins over AQ teams:
Cincinnati
Connecticut
South Florida
Indiana
Rutgers
Penn State
Iowa
Kansas
By virtue of the MAC's performance OOC they are certainly more deserving of a spot than the Big East champion and I think going undefeated in a conference with quality teams like Toledo, Bowling Green, Ohio, and Ball State merits consideration for an at-large berth.
Sure Kent State or Northern Illinois may not be the caliber of the great TCU/Boise State teams but who's to say that's the standard for admission? Those teams were competitive in the National title sense - not just the BCS. They were the exception, more than the rule. Remember, had the rules for admission been revised a year earlier, the Horned Frogs, themselves would have been in a BCS game in 2005. I'd go out on a limb and say the 2012 Golden Flashes and Huskies are better than that squad, they just haven't built up the cachet.

Fair Breakdown, so the conference beat 2 sub-par Big East teams and 1 overrated Cincy and then beat doormats of the Big xii & BiG10..... My argument is for them to not make the BCS period and the Big East team either for that matter..... Kent St by beating Rutgers is a reasonable argument, but they still lost to UK the weakest of the SEC teams.

How many times has KU been blown out this season? KState and OU were the only teams to really crush Kansas and they are both top 10 teams, and the two best in the Big 12. Baylor ended up winning big but they were only leading by 6 at halftime. Iowa State smacked the Jayhawks around but their season was way past over at that point and ISU needed that win to make a bowl. Recipe for a give-up game.
NIU is a top 20 team nationally in
- Sacks
- Tackles for loss
- Pass efficiency defense
- Scoring defense
- Turnover margin
- Rushing offense
- Total offense
- Scoring offense
There isn't any comparison between a team with that statistical profile and 07 Hawaii. This year's Louisiana Tech team is basically that Hawaii team reincarnated...only they lost a couple games.
You must have missed Penn State in there as well but that's beside the point.
If the standards for the BCS were for including the best teams then you'd see Aggie, loser of Bama/Georgia, Oklahoma, South Carolina, etc. in the games and there would be no Big East champ or B1G champ in the current year. That's an entirely different discussion on the framework of the BCS itself.
This is a debate as to whether a one-loss, undefeated in conference play, Kent State or Northern Illinois belongs in the top 16 to which I think the winner most certainly does.
