I don't think it should be a yearly thing, but definitely should be on future schedules. The main positives is long history/ rivalry game and easy road travel. The big negative is that with nine conference games, if you want to play other p5 teams nonconference you either have to schedule 11 P5 games (like this year) or not play any other P5 games if you keep it at 10. I personally think 10 is the right number. So as part of a rotation of P5 nonconference opponents it is fine, but not an every year thing.

I'd be all for this. Every Big 12 team should do this.

And it's not like our fan base treats SMU like a P4 team anyway, why consider them that for scheduling?

FWIW, only Baylor and TCU play 11 P5 opponents in 2025 in all of college football. Both play/played SMU. SEC is going to 9 games and the ACC I guess is talking about it. I don't know if more teams will schedule 11 P5 games in the future if all leagues go to 9 conference games.

I dont know the exact details but heard something about the SEC requiring atleast 1 P5 OOC game in the future. The B10 is not considering this however to no ones surprise.

Can't speak to other schools but MN had H&H with Colo in 21 and 22, UNC in 23 and 24, California in 25 and 28, Miss St in 26 and 27. And they have Bama in 32 and 33.

Sure. For the record, Wisc has/had H&H from 21 to 28 with Notre Dama, Bama, Washington St, Pitt, Utah. Next year is ND AND Pitt.

Pretty sure tOSU has played Texas, OU, Bama, Notre Dame, Georgia, and more.

So some do and some don't.
Agreed but I like the rule the SEC (think it was the commish himself) is proposing.

Yeah, but that doesn’t fit the narrative. The Big 10 OOC schedules suck (all they do is play MAC teams! )and the Big 12’s are much better. Lol.

B10 UCLA (still feels weird to say that) wishes their OOC was all MAC and not MW...though not sure if even that would change their record this season..

I'd rather play SMU than another fcs bodybag game. One fcs opponent a year is enough.
I think when the talk of cancelling first started, SMU was not much better than an FCS opponent. Their abysmal job of hosting in 2022 seemed to finalize the sentiment.

I attended in 2022 and last year for a half (left before Sonny was asked to leave) unfortunately along with many other years. I personally faced to major issues any years ive been but did SMU atleast fix the free water (pretty sure thats what youre referring to) last year? I somewhat remember them running out in 2022 which is un professional but don't remember any issues in 2024.
