With all the spread offenses, and the many drag patterns you see, linebackers are being double checked, speed wise. If you can't cover you can't handle the many spread formations in the Big 12. A drag pattern gave Mich State the TD they needed to win(over Frogs) and Okie State, others, cut big chunks of yardage because we couldn't run with backs, slots running crossing patterns.
Think Kahlee and many others would have been more highly recruited in years past. But if you can't run under 4.6 now, it may be hard to get noticed...Don't know his speed, but suspect it is 4.7 or so.
Two things I've noticed happening because of the spread. One, QB's need to be more mobile and fast. And two, linebackers are required to be fast and agile...
The old days of Butkus, slow footed big hitters, is over. Tom Landry was the first I saw expose Butkus, as he was way ahead of most offensive coordinators, in his day.. He was forcing Butkus to cover Garrison on passes, way back then.. He was way too slow. Cowgirls always ran up big scores on the Bears..
