Justice on UH future

Yeah TCU would be a slam dunk for the big twelve if they cared about athletics. But the only score they care about is the one in their checking accounts.

From Houston Chronicle. Every Justice column on college athletics comes with a Longhorn slant. Note he thinks TCU is a slam dunk for the Big 12 in the future. I'm not so sure, but thought his suggestions to UH for future consideration were interesting. Basically, go kiss up to Dodds.

at least he said tcu would be a shoe in.

the rest of the article is crap. UH had an above average season last year and we're saying they belong in the Big12-2? yes they beat Ok State, Tech and Miss State. they also lost to UTEP, UCF and AFA!!

Justice is a good friend, but he's not writing that column for TCU fans - he's writing it for UH fans.

Obviously, more Coogs read his newspaper than Frogs, and his nod to TCU's inclusion is nothing more than conjecture.

Everything he or any other member of the media does is designed to grow his audience size, first and foremost.

Richard is a die-hard Orangeblood, but when it comes to business - he's a realist.

Justice assumes that the Big 12-2 will last long enough to expand. Maybe he's right.

But Notre Dame's still an independent, and the Big lEast is still a creaky football league. The SEC may actually make a run at one or more schools in the State of Texas, as opposed to the Aggies dreaming of an invitation that did or more likely did not ever exist. Etc., etc.

I am of the opinion of that because big 12 south schools have used their conference affiliation against TCU in recruiting that they do feel threatend by TCU's rise during the recruiting wars, and thus with TCU in the Big 12, that would take away that advantage. OU would probably give in but I bet Tech, Baylor, ATM, and UT say hell no to TCU.

What we need to do is ask Erik Hyman to get Slive and the SEC to publicly "court" TCU, even if they have no intention of asking us to join. If Texas thought there was a realistic chance of us joining the SEC, hopefully they'd be so spooked that they would get us in in order to keep the SEC out of Texas.

Not a bad idea. We need our own Chip Brown throwing stuff out there to raise our stock.

But do you really want to be in the "big" 12 with just UT's table scraps? I know those table scraps are alot of money but in the long run how do you keep up with UT when they are getting at least twice as much tv revenue every year?

If Utah leaves, don't be surprised to see UH mentioned as a possible candidate for MWC.

Now, before all of the anti-coog high comments get going, I know this topic has been addressed ad nauseum here. And I'm not advocating for either their inclusion or rejection, I'm just pointing out that if Utah leaves you might start seeing UH legitimately enter the discussion.

Realists don't bring U of H up as a serious candidate for Big XII expansion. I can't believe he really believes his own words. And to be honest, considering that the Big XII's is not concerned about adding winning programs, but only with splitting the most money with the fewest teams other than UT, A&M and OU, he really can't be serious about them adding TCU either. Very strange article in my opinion.

You did not read my post very carefully. I never said Justice seriously thought UH was a good candidate for Big 12. I said he knows who his audience is - and that's UH fans, not TCU fans.

In that way, he's a realist.

He must be desperate to add 2 or 3 new readers. That's a very small U of H audience down there.
