Is this a turning point in TCU football?

There is not one thing that this AD should have done differently that would have impacted play on the field, and he did a very good job of revamping TCU’s NIL with the new LEAP program.
Of course, if the decision is made to fire Dykes for $21m+, Buddie will be measured on the new coaching search.

So far this is 100% on Dykes.
We’ve barely even mentioned special teams. TCU’s special teams are abysmal!!!

I believe the last time TCU returned a kick/punt for a TD was Derius Davis in ‘20.
I guess the special teams coach is Tommerdahl. He should be fired tomorrow.
The 10 points from botched special teams plays are why we lost to ISU.
Dykes should have fired the Special Teams Coach last night! He talks the talk but never walks the walk!

I spoke on this last year. We really needed to keep momentum after the natty year as NIL and portal started to ramp up. A program like us HAS to win A LOT of games to get big-time players. In this era of NIL and portal, because we didn't keep up that momentum coming off 2022, it's highly likely we're just an average program going forward. Losing Texas and OU also didn't help. There were plenty of good players that came here on the basis of playing those teams every year and seeing us beat Texas a lot. There are quite a few factors at play now that's going to make it tough for us to even win 8 games consistently.

The ONLY thing I believe that can change that is getting a head coach in here that knows how to maximize the portal. Look what Indiana has done the last 2 seasons. That's what we need. The only way we can get the guy in here that can do that is if we keep suffering some bad losses. I know nobody wants to hear that, but if we keep winning close games to teams we should beat easily, they will keep Sonny around because of the overall record. They will ignore the details. Consistently losing is the only way they clean house and start fresh.

We need a good GM, a competent coach and a big money donor. We have none of those. Plus an AD from the service academies...

I've heard much grumbling about the new AD. Admittedly I haven't paid much attention to what he's doing or not doing. What exactly has he done to make a determination that he's incompetent? ..or seems incompetent? Honest question. Any specifics?

I'm not a big money donor or anything but here's my opinion as an alum and fan. I was a season ticket holder but I cancelled after the OSU series was moved from home and home a few years back.

I previously received almost monthly emails from the office of CDC and Donati. I think I've seen one email from ol Buddy. We had Schollmeir Live for basketball the last three years for basketball. Was there anything this year? I wouldn't know because there is no communications. Pretty sure there wasn't. I'm an alum and big fan of TCU football but I haven't seen anything from Buddy that shows he knows what he's doing. That's just My 2 cents.

In the past 3 years the team has gone 6-3 this season (most likely to end at either 7-5 or 6-6), 9-4, and 5-7 (after going to the NCG, which should have brought a lot of top recruits. So, looking at that 9-4 season, we beat exactly 1 team that had a winning record in the regular season, Tech 35-34, while losing to 2 teams that ended 4-8. So great record but... If this season plays out the last 3 games that will make last 3 years record to be either 20-17 or 21-16. Good enough to probably be somewhere between 50th and 75th best. TCU has to decide if they want to play major college football or start slowly eroding away. Note, I cancelled my season tickets after the 5-7 season and it will be a while before I go back. Season tickets are not cheap but I will pay to watch if and when TCU decides to play to WIN. Upgrades are needed all over, offense, defense and coaching. The choice is TCUs - get relevant again - or slide to be the SMU of the 90s. Gary Patterson and TCU together built TCU's football team from the deep pits and it could go back there. Don't let it happen!
This moment feels pretty similar to roughly October 2019. A few TCU fans realized mid-season that year that TCU football under GP had lost its way and would never return to its heights--the standards he had set. It took another two years for the fact to be undeniably clear to everyone.

Unless the coaching carousel gets so inconceivably crazy this year that Sonny--deciding he's sick of the ingratitude of fans who don't like seeing the Frogs outgain injury ravaged teams by 160 empty calorie air yards only to lose--goes and gets another job, I'm sure he'll be TCU's head coach in 2027; probably 2028. I'm also pretty sure we'll never be better than 7-5.

He is gone next year.

There’s no way he’s here for the 2027 season

Lots of things going wrong for the Frog football program and lots of folks think we may not be able to compete on various levels (coaching, NIL, etc.) but here's one way the Frogs might make it to the playoffs every year (or every other year) - leave the Big 12 and join the Sun Belt or a similar G5 conference. We could win the conference every year, being the highest ranked G5 team, and lo and behold - make it to the party! Could also save that way on coaching salaries, NIL, etc. There, have fun with it.

Perusing social media this weekend and Tech are the darlings of the football world currently. Will it last, who knows. But they can probably build on it given the money they are spending and willing to spend.

We were once that darling and instead of taking advantage of it, we fully scheissed it up beyond belief.
tech is gonna go full lubbock before the season ends. they'll be 7-5 next year. they are not built to sustain. some of those paid transfers are done this year, and they can't do it that way again with the rule change.

well, a break even event did not help him much.

We are past our turning point and are on the fast track to irrelevancy. It was the dumbest mistake ever to extend SD's contract after one season. That team was Patterson's and was lead by a warrior in Max Duggan who wasn't even going to start. All SD had to do his first season was get out of the way and let the seniors lead that team. We have now seen what SD coaching abilities truly are and the verdict is 8-4, 7-5, 6-6 teams if we are lucky. He and his coaching staff don't have his teams prepared to win games they should win and clearly isn't coaching them up. There is is no excuse for that. I couldn't believe last night post game he said that when the running back fumbled, that there needed to be better coaching. He makes 7.5 million a year to coach football and manage a group of assistants. The whole program needs to be evaluated top to bottom. SD needs to get rid of Briles whose contract is up this year and also get rid of Ricker. We have scored 10pts in the last 5 games in the 1st quarter and we can't run the football. This is do or die time for TCU football and not being ranked or playing for a conference title is greatly hurting us. We need to have the same chip on our shoulder that we did when we were left behind from the SWC and forced to join the WAC. There will be another re-alignment and it will be devastating to be left out.
Think that 1st quarter score stat is bad, gotta wonder how our second half score stat holds up. It's been awful.

How many ranked teams have we played the last three years? Our problem is not losing to ranked teams, it is losing to teams like CU, WV, UCF, UH and now ISU at home. None of those teams were ranked. Life in the new Big 12 is not beating ranked teams, it is beating teams you should beat..........like ISU and KSU this year.
Saturday confirmed what many of us said when he was the candidate for the job.
The man does way less with more. The reason he hasn't really sent Briles packing is because he agrees with that type of scheme ... to an extent. He'd rather pass the ball and do screens all day than send an running back on 3rd and 2.
Defenses have evolved. He has not.
Heck, even Patterson was willing to change offensive mindset.

I know we were ahead at half on Saturday, but at no point of that game did it look like we were in control. The stats were a ghost for that game.

Honestly thinking about dropping my season tickets. Can’t stand Briles on our sideline, the games are +3.5 hours long and boring for all but about 15 cumulative minutes. PA system is too loud by about 100 dB. Just not feeling it much these days.
Give em, Dude! Had 4 seats 17 rows up on the 50 for years. We said enough is enough a few years back. We missed them at first, but that faded quickly to being happy we did. Using that money on things that bring us joy instead of so much aggravation is the best thing we ever did. The pageantry of college football had turned into the atmosphere of a bad rock concert. Your are right about the length of the tv timeouts. The game takes forever!
If we do decide to take in a game live and in person, it is easy to find good seats cheap on StubHub and such. Parking is free and easy at Doxology. Just do I!…

I personally feel unless Sonny makes a change at OC and at special teams, his days are numbered. They are a weakness that are holding us back. I don't have anything personal against Sonny. He appears to be a nice guy, but he cannot let his assistants continue to hold this team back. I think it's what doomed Gary in the end, and it very well could doom Sonny.

he's gonna have to step up and step out soon, or he'll be hearing the empty suit complaints.

Yeah, the circus on the return was a joke.
But, Points left off the board due to turnovers didn't help. Including one that resulted in 6 points for ISU.
