Is the NCAA cool with people tweeting recruits?

Would like to seek clarification on this. OU and A&M fans are alllllll over Justin Manning's twitter page begging him to come to their programs. Not in a subtle way, I might add.

Actually, no. It is against the rules for Boosters (which is a pretty broad definition) to contact prospective recruits.

Of course, they'd whack us for it. OU and A$M, not so much...

They do define boosters pretty broadly. We were tailgating at a MD game and some softball players came by selling programs as a fundraiser. We offered them something to eat or drink and they told us the NCAA forbid them to take anything from us. If any of those folks who post on their twitter page are season ticket holders or made a contribution to the school, they could be considered boosters.

From a practical standpoint, I would think enforcement of that would be almost impossible, though.

I just looked up the rules and posted them on the main "Justin Manning" thread. If any of the people tweeting him is an alumnus or has donated money to the athletic department, it is a recruiting violation to contact him or recruit him in any manner.

It's a recruiting violation but the NCAA won't do anything about it. They have zero jurisdiction to private twitter accounts. Sometimes you'll see fake accounts tweeting bad things to recruits as well. This has been going on since the invention of twitter and i'm willing to bet some TCU recruits have been contacted by tcu "boosters" in the past.

CDC posted about this in one of his weekly updates, it is technically a violation. And it comes off a little creepy IMO when the same guy keeps tweeting a high school get about how great he is.
