If you were Notre Dame ...

Would you rather get beat by 35 points in national championship game, or, win a regular BCS bowl game?
2314's opine:
A win is always better than a loss.
That one loss in MNC game - especially a blowout loss - dimishes the entire season and the crtitics will look at the weak schedule (with Big 10 so down NDs schedule, which includes service academies annually, is extremely weak. Not their fault because normally it is a good schedule, but it is what it is in 2012).
Win a BCS bowl and ND could crow about being 13-0 and deserving of a national title without having to play in the actual game.
I liken ND's attitude to this little saying: "Watch out what you ask for, because you might get it."

They're not going to get beat by 35. They will get by 10 or 14, but it will be obvious the entire time that they have no chance at winning. See KState vs TCU.

ND played 10 teams who are bowl eligible, including the aforementioned service academy.

I am of the school of thought that a game between Bama/ND would be even closer than that. No logical reason to think that, just do. This season has had a foul stench that smells like the luck of the Irish coming back to South Bend, and I don't like it.

The real question is....

Would you rather have a 30% chance at a national title, or a 70% chance at a Sugar/Orange/Fiesta Bowl game trophy?

Obviously, anyone with a set would take the shot at the title

Notre Dame's "extremely weak" schedule is rated at #30 by Jeff Sagarin. For purposes of comparison, Alabama is #39, Oregon is #31, Florida is #14, OU is #11 and KState is #24. Of the other BCS computers, Anderson & Hester also has ND at 30 (UA at 36), Colley has ND at 15 (Alabama at 47), Massey has ND at 17 (Alabama 29). There are arguments to be made regarding ND, but SOS is not one of them.

I'd take a 1% shot at the title over a 99% shot at the others. The only thing that matters is winning a NC.

Notre Dame hasn't played a weak schedule and won't be over-matched against Bama or Georgia. Anyone who thinks otherwise is probably doing so because they want to. If you can hold OU to 13 points in Norman you can hold anyone below 20 anywhere, anytime.

On a week to week basis, I agree. But give Saban a month and I think he should have them ready to handle ND.

Something tells me that telling a talented, disciplined, tough team with a once in a decade leader that they don't stand a chance isn't a very good idea. If it's Bama, I like them to cover, and possibly win (33% chance). If it's Georgia, I like them to win by more than 10.

Ha! We have found a ND fan on the board. Look MR Stat Man, I am talking eyeball test. All Big 10 teams they played were WEAK, BYU is WEAK, and (what you notre dame fans seem to forget) the ONLY reason they are in the MNC game is because losing-record Pitt MISSED A FIELD GOAL IN OT. Why do you dame fans forget that? And, all I said was they aren't my idea of a team worthy of playing FOR IT ALL based on what I have seen this year. Pitt? Please.

Yeah, but every team has that excuse at one point or another. The Frogs have the "well what if that one play went different" excuse against Tech (and you could make the case against ISU too). Hell, the Dalllas Cowboys would be 7-4 or 8-3 if a handful of plays go the other way.

Do you, or do you not, think that the 2010 Frogs could beat the 2012 Notre Dame team?
And Frogs never got the chance despite 12-0. This is why I wanted Pitt to nail that easy FG.
YOU IDIOTS QUIT LETTING ND OFF THE HOOK. 2314 knows that if UT were in the EXACT situation you people would not be sticking up for them.
Excuse 2314 while 2314 goes and ...

I absolutely hate ND and I think it really sucks that they are back in the mix - but I watched them the other night against USC, and I think they are pretty good - have a shot at winning it all
