Notre Dame is similar in size to TCU. Of course, they have approximately one billion Catholics supporting them.

Actually, the number anti-Notre Dame Catholics (especially those who grew up in the Midwest but went to a Big 10 institution) has always surprised me.

As for me, I am Catholic who does root for Notre Dame on the basis of the religious affiliation.

Sometimes people don't know about private schools. Stanford, for instance, only has about 7000 undergraduates, with a somewhat larger graduate school. Vanderbilt only has about 6700 undergrads. Harvard, for God's sake, only has 6700 undergrads (and about 14500 grad students). The only really big undergrad private schools I could find were USC and BYU.

TCU is smaller than most because it has less graduate students. State school people don't understand the idea of great schools that are also small.

I've come back to defend my board, and defend my state.

The relationship between MSU and Michigan (which we call scUM) is very much a UT - TAMU relationship - except we're not a homoerotic cult like the aggies. We were an ag school foudned under the Morrill act (the first in the coutnry), and since then, Michigan has been trying to merge our school, close it down, move it, and keep it under thumb. Michigan gets all the breaks within the conference, and carries the support of bandwagoners.

We have our share of "Sav-a-lot Spartans" but the vast majority of Spartans are either Alums, Students, or connected to the U.

We're good people - we drink, we share, we win more than we lose, but we're very used to losing.

As for the state of Michigan, the decay of detroit is but one part. The west side of the state (where I'm from) is experiencing a revival under a blossoming medical center, local art, and some of the best damn beer in the country (You're welcome for Founders and Bell's). Even the Auto Industry, which is the life blood of the state, is turning around. Detroit is making the best cars on the road, and the gov't bailout was a wild success. GM, Chrysler, and Ford are lean, mean, and aggressive.

Finally, tRCMB is a weird animal. We're wildly irreverent - and we prefer it that way. I describe the board as 40% MSU sports, 20% sports in general, 20% news of the weird / world news, 20% trolling. We were making our own wiki due to the number of inside jokes. We eat our own, we make jokes, and we cry after MSU gets blasted.

I would venture 80% of the people there knew that TCU was between 5K and 10K in enrollment, was in CUSA, tMWC and (almost) the big-east before joining the BXII. We know about Andy Dalton and Coach P. We know about frogs squirting blood from your eyes. And we are forever thankful that ya'll beat Wisky and that Bielema doesn't understand clock management and running the football.

We are good people - we just do the internet differently than most college fan sites. Trust me, take a look. it's intoxicating.

In the what it is worth department, my wife (Red Raider Alum), daughter and in-laws went to the Tech/Mich. St. Alamo Bowl game the year TCU played in the Fiesta Bowl. They met a number of MSU fans around San Antonio and had nothing but nice things to say about them. I fully expect a fun time mixing with the Spartans.

The UP is nice, because it is rural and almost Canadian. One of my former business partners is a Sparty, and he is a jackass. Hockey, hockey, hockey. Best sport ever. Actually has a list of reasons why. Thinks Detroit and Livonia are the bedrock of Rock music. Has a list of reasons why.

At TCU, one summer, I was forced into a roommate situation with a dude from Saginaw. Total stereotype. Permed fro, drove an '82 Camaro, that he LOVED (it was 1986), constantly bagged on the food in Texas (hated brisket and cow ribs), always pointing to his stupid hand when describing where he lived (as if anyone who politely asked really cared), and ran back to Michigan after one summer here because it was too hot and he couldn't get laid.

And, lastly, I have a BIL from Big Blue. Sorry Sparty, but his [ Arschloch]ry as a Michigander will bleed over and color you, too.

Having said all that, I'm sure there are great folks, too. But, I have to learn how to hate for 3 hours on December 29.

It never ceases to amaze me how little people know about our school. An OU guy next to me knew next to nothing about us. He was nice about it but I couldn't believe his ignorance. Same thing happened in Austin. People don't know we're a private school. They don't know what conference we came from. One guy even thought we were independant prior to joining the BXII. Maybe I'm just a nerd but I could probably recite at least basic facts about every school in FBS.

Ditto. I had a long, cordial conversation with a nice lady OU fan sitting in front of us. She was very complimentary of the campus, stadium, and team, but she did ask some funny questions.
